The College of Engineering is carrying out large-scale national projects worth more than 70 billion won; based on this, it is nurturing talented people with creative problem-solving and glocal capabilities as the source of national competitiveness in the era of knowledge economy. In addition, through active industry-university cooperation with the region, it is becoming a central axis of research in the Gwangyang Bay area.
Chemical engineering is a study that creates high added value through physical and chemical changes in materials. It is also called process engineering since it shares general characteristics with other engineering disciplines dealing with manufactured materials but places more emphasis on procedures. Chemical engineering has developed material production industries such as chemical industries; recently, however, the centre has shifted to high value-added industries such as biochemical processes, fine chemical processes, polymer processes, semiconductor production processes, and eco-friendly processes. Students at the Department of Chemical Engineering learn subjects such as unit operation, reaction engineering, chemical and thermodynamics, colloid/surface science, and chemical materials; and through research on adsorption and separation, new catalyst development, fuel cell, nanostructure control, and organometallic complex synthesis, they are being nurtured as competitive talents.
