The College of Engineering is carrying out large-scale national projects worth more than 70 billion won; based on this, it is nurturing talented people with creative problem-solving and glocal capabilities as the source of national competitiveness in the era of knowledge economy. In addition, through active industry-university cooperation with the region, it is becoming a central axis of research in the Gwangyang Bay area.
The remarkable scientific and technological progress of the 21st century stems from the discovery and development of new materials. The Internet revolution, which is changing human history, and the development of the information industry would not have been possible without the development of semiconductors based on Si materials and without the development of high-performance materials in the aerospace field. In a reality that requires the development of new materials necessitating high performance, the Department of New Materials Engineering for Future Strategies at Sunchon National University is on the cutting edge. The Department of New Materials Engineering has a close relationship with many industries where new material engineers such as POSCO (Gwangyang Steel Works), Hyundai HYSCO, Magnesium Sheet Factory, LG Innotek, and Samsung Electronics can play a leading role, and it is committed to education and research. In this department, we are developing various education and training programs other than regular subjects in preparation for the future demand for new materials-related manpower and making every effort to ensure that all students receive education full of realism.
