The College of Engineering is carrying out large-scale national projects worth more than 70 billion won; based on this, it is nurturing talented people with creative problem-solving and glocal capabilities as the source of national competitiveness in the era of knowledge economy. In addition, through active industry-university cooperation with the region, it is becoming a central axis of research in the Gwangyang Bay area.

College of Education

The College of Education nurtures competent secondary school teachers who can contribute to the development of a democratic society by acquiring integrated thinking ability based on the theory necessary for each major area and practical educational skills related to the school field with a firm sense of duty as an educator. In addition, thanks to our well-organised educational system, we boast of the highest passing rate in the recruitment examination in the region, and we are also serving as a cornerstone of national education in each field of society

Convergence major

In response to the 4th industrial revolution, two or more departments (majors) organically integrate academic fields and provide education to nurture talent with convergence capabilities required by society. Regardless of department, anyone can take a single major or a double major.

College of Pharmacy

The College of Pharmacy aims to train pharmacists who can play a leading role in improving health and welfare based on the spirit of service and cultivating the professionalism required as a pharmacist in accordance with the educational philosophy of Sunchon National University, which is based on the principle of truth and creation. Clinical practice is being carried out at hospitals such as Seoul Asan Hospital, Seoul Police Hospital, Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, Busan Haeundae Paik Hospital, Yangsan Pusan National University Hospital, Dongtan Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Bucheon Soonchunhyang University Hospital, Chonnam National University Hospital, etc., and local pharmacies in Sunchon, Yeosu, and Gwangyang by Sunchon National University. We have also received a total of 10 billion won in support after signing an agreement with Sunchon City to establish jointly the Natural Medicine and Drug Material Development Research Center for research-oriented education. Moreover, together with nearby hospitals and pharmaceutical companies, we are making continuous efforts such as planning various clinical trials and new drug development.

Future Convergence University

The College of Future Convergence focuses on systematic theoretical learning and practical education capabilities, with the goal of realizing new industrial fields required in the era of the 4th industrial revolution and lifelong learning for adult learners, and on nurturing professionals customized to consumers. In addition, we are conducting education cantered on creative thinking, cooperative intelligence, and practical problem-solving skills necessary for maximizing the ability to adapt to the environment and survive in the innovative industrial revolution.

Our society has now developed remarkably over the past few decades but is still changing rapidly with the development of hi-tech industries. The future that will come after the era of the 4th industrial revolution will be a world where imagination in science fiction becomes a reality, and the field that is the basis for the development of this hi-tech field is hi-tech components and materials. In line with such trend of the times, Sunchon National University, a representative national university in Jeollanam-do, has been approved by the Ministry of Education in 2021 to secure national technological sovereignty in the components and materials industry, and the Department of Advanced Components and Materials Engineering is newly established directly under the Sunchon University Administration Complex. The Department of Advanced Components and Materials Engineering provides multi-disciplinary convergence theory and practice education covering various fields such as big data, computational science, energy, semiconductor, and steel and leadership to lead their own research. In addition, the Department of Printing and Electronics Engineering, the parent of the Department of Advanced Components and Materials Engineering, was selected as a world-class research university fostering project (WCU, December 2008) by the Ministry of Education and was newly established as a graduate school specialised department. We have secured more than 50 billion won in research funding by carrying out BK21 Plus and key research institute support projects. Based on this, we have about 100 cutting-edge research equipment (construction cost of more than 6 billion won) and operate various convergence education and research programs such as industry-university cooperation and international exchange.

College of Life Science and Industry

The College of Bioindustry Science aims to nurture competent professionals with problem-solving and field understanding skills necessary for the development of the 21st-century bio industry and advanced agriculture and studies the scientific development and advancement of agricultural production, development of cutting-edge agricultural science and technology, and efficient use of agricultural resources. In addition, in relation to life sciences, we produce talents who will professionally perform research functions in modern biology and nurture professional manpower who will contribute to the improvement of productivity of biological resources, conservation of the environment, and development of the biological industry.

College of Social Sciences
