  • Imposition of insurance fee
    • 2021 international student insurance fee: KRW 43,490 (acquired on 1 March)
    • KRW 39,540 for insurance fee in April + KRW 3,950 for one insurance fee out of 10 instalments in March
    • Reduction of insurance fee: To alleviate the burden of insurance premiums for international students, the one-year discount (reduction) has been increased from 50% to 70%.
  • Payment of insurance fee
    • Payment due: Prepaid every 25th of the month (Example) insurance fee in April 2021: Payment by March 25, 2021 (invoice sent around every 10th of the month)
    • Payment method: Automatic debit (account, card), website, branch of National Health Insurance Service, bank
  • Health insurance benefits (available from the registration date)
    • Same benefits as Korean nationals: You can receive various benefits such as dental and oriental clinic treatment, health checkup, and pregnancy and childbirth-related medical expenses (National Happiness Card).

      Items not covered by health insurance, such as treatment for diseases that do not interfere with work or daily life, are excluded. (Example) Cosmetic surgery, etc.

  • Disadvantages of not paying the insurance fee
    • Limitations on insurance benefits: From the 1st of the month following the payment deadline until the insurance fee is paid in full, no insurance benefits are available.
    • Restrictions on visa extension, etc.: Disadvantages occur when applying for a residence permit such as visa extension from the Ministry of Justice.
  • Delinquency disposition: If you set a deadline but do not pay your insurance premiums, you may be subject to a compulsory collection process that confiscates real estate, automobiles, and deposits.

Illness and accident insurance for international students

  • Sunchon National University International Exchange Education Centre is in charge of purchasing group insurance from domestic insurance companies for the convenience of international students and reduction of insurance fees.
  • Submit an application for membership to the International Exchange Education Centre
  • Required documents: Registration form, certificate of alien registration or passport
  • Insurance fee: KRW 140,000 /year, KRW 80,000 /6 months (advance payment)
  • Coverage: Injury and death, side effects, medical expenses for injury, hospitalization due to illness, treatment of disease, etc.
  • How to claim insurance: After completion of treatment, submit receipts for medical expenses and drug expenses to the person in charge of the insurance company → Refund after deducting a certain amount according to the regulations

    Tip: Access to School Healthcare Centre

    If you need medicine for mild cold or headache, there is no need to visit a pharmacy or a hospital. The School Healthcare Centre has general cold medicine, headache medicine, digestive medicine, and medicine for minor injuries (Location: 1st floor of the Student Union)
