What is Philosophy?
Philosophy is the study of pursuit of truth in consideration of the meaning of humans and the world as a whole. Fields of inquiry in philosophy include ontology that questions the meaning of existence, epistemology that analyses how human cognition and understanding are established, value theory that reflects on the grounds of good, and logic that studies valid and sound reasoning. As is widely known, Philosophy is the oldest discipline in human history, and most of the disciplines have branched out from philosophy since modern times. Therefore, philosophy has been called the king of all studies. Even today, philosophy is not only contributing to the development of human society by being actively studied by experts but is also being taught as a required subject in major universities and elementary and secondary educational institutions around the world to develop students’ logical thinking and theoretical perception. By learning philosophy, we can not only break down errors and prejudices through logical and critical thinking but also gain insight into new values required for modern life through creative questions.
