- 재학생과 유학생 40명, 3박 4일간 울릉도·독도 방문 … ‘글로벌 역사문화 교류’의 장

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 지난 8월 26일(화)부터 29일(금)까지 3박 4일간 울릉도·독도 일원에서 「2025학년도 유학생과 함께하는 역사문화탐방」을 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 탐방은 재학생 및 외국인 유학생 40여 명이 참여해 대한민국 영토인 독도의 역사적 의미를 되새기고, 울릉도의 문화와 자연을 체험하며 글로벌 소통을 강화하기 위해 마련되었다. 유학생은 인도네시아, 베트남, 필리핀, 방글라데시, 우즈베키스탄, 튀르키예 6개국에서 참여했다.

참가 학생들은 ▲독도의용수비대 기념관 ▲독도전시관 등 울릉도·독도의 주요 역사문화 현장을 방문하며, 대한민국 영토 수호의 중요성을 배우고 한국 문화를 직접 체험했다. 특히 독도 현장에서 참가자 전원이 태극기를 흔들며 “독도는 대한민국 땅”이라는 구호를 외치며 영토 수호 의지를 다졌다.

그린스마트팜스쿨 1학년 유학생은 “교과서와 영상으로만 보던 독도를 직접 밟아보니 감격스러웠다”며 “대한민국 학생들과 함께한 경험이 잊지 못할 추억이 될 것”이라고 소감을 전했다.

서영현(토목공학과, 4년) 재학생은 “유학생 친구들과 함께 독도에 올라서니 그 의미가 더 깊게 다가왔다”며 “이번 탐방을 통해 우리 세대가 지켜야 할 가치와 책임을 더욱 확실히 느꼈다”고 말했다.

최수임 학생처장은 “이번 역사문화탐방은 재학생과 유학생이 함께 대한민국의 소중한 역사와 문화를 체험하며 글로벌 시민으로 성장하는 뜻깊은 계기”라며, “앞으로도 국립순천대학교는 국제적 감각과 자긍심을 겸비한 인재 양성을 위해 다양한 비교과 프로그램을 운영해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 국립순천대학교는 이번 탐방을 통해 학생들에게 올바른 역사관을 심어주고, 국제적 감각과 공동체 의식을 함양할 수 있는 소중한 기회를 제공했다.

Sunchon National University Concludes ‘Dokdo and Ulleungdo Historical-Cultural Exploration’ with Domestic and International Students

- 40 students, including international participants from six countries, join a 4-day program to strengthen global exchange and historical awareness

Sunchon National University (President Byung-Woon Lee) successfully hosted the 2025 Historical-Cultural Exploration with International Students from August 26 (Tue) to 29 (Fri), a four-day program held on Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

A total of 40 students, including SCNU undergraduates and international students from Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, and T rkiye, took part in the program. The initiative aimed to reaffirm the historical significance of Dokdo as Korean territory while providing opportunities to experience Ulleungdo’s culture and natural environment, thereby fostering global communication and exchange.

During the visit, participants explored key cultural and historical sites such as the Dokdo Volunteer Garrison Memorial Hall and the Dokdo Exhibition Center. At Dokdo itself, all participants raised Korean flags and chanted “Dokdo is Korean territory,” symbolically strengthening their commitment to the protection of Korea’s sovereignty.

One international student from the Green Smart Farm School commented, “It was deeply moving to finally step on Dokdo, a place I had only read about in textbooks and seen in videos. Experiencing it together with Korean students will be an unforgettable memory.”

Seoyoung-Hyun, a senior in Civil Engineering, added, “Visiting Dokdo with international classmates made the experience even more meaningful. This program reminded me of the values and responsibilities our generation must uphold.”

Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Choi Soo-Im, stated, “This program provided both Korean and international students with an invaluable opportunity to learn about Korea’s history and culture while growing as global citizens. SCNU will continue to expand similar extracurricular programs to nurture students with both international perspective and strong civic pride.”

Through this initiative, SCNU not only instilled a deeper understanding of Korea’s historical heritage but also promoted intercultural awareness and community spirit, offering students a meaningful foundation for becoming responsible global leaders.
