- 전공 선택 앞둔 신입생의 적응 돕고, 재학생과의 교류 통해 공동체 의식 함양

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 우주항공·첨단소재스쿨의 무전공 신입생과 재학생을 대상으로 지난 6월 29일부터 30일까지 나주 중흥골드스파에서 1박 2일간 ‘신입생·재학생 동행 MT’ 프로그램을 운영했다고 밝혔다.

이번 프로그램은 2025학년도부터 무전공으로 입학한 신입생들을 위한 적응 지원 활동의 일환으로 마련되었으며, 신입생의 학교생활 적응과 전공 분반 이후의 공동체 형성을 돕기 위한 다양한 활동으로 구성되었다. 행사는 스쿨 학생회가 주최하고 우주항공·첨단소재스쿨이 주관하여, 기획부터 운영까지 전 과정이 학생 중심으로 진행되었다.

참가자들은 ▲아이스브레이킹 ▲공동체 미션 ▲전공 선배 Q&A 세션 등 프로그램에 참여하며, 전공별 재학생 선배들과 팀을 이뤄 자연스럽게 교류하고 협업의 경험을 쌓았다. 특히 Q&A 시간에는 전공 선택에 대한 고민을 자유롭게 나누고, 실질적인 조언을 얻는 의미 있는 시간을 가졌다. 한 신입생은 “다른 분반 친구들과 친해질 수 있었고, 선배들의 이야기를 들으며 전공 선택에 많은 도움이 되었다”라고 소감을 전했다.

신창선 우주항공·첨단소재스쿨 학장은 “이번 프로그램은 단순한 친목 행사를 넘어, 신입생과 재학생 간의 교류를 통해 공동체 의식을 형성하고 진로 탐색에도 도움을 주고자 마련했다”며, “앞으로도 학생 중심 프로그램을 지속 운영해 학생들의 성장과 적응을 적극 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 국립순천대학교는 글로컬대학 체계에 따라 신입생 전원을 무전공으로 선발해 자율 설계형 교육과정을 운영하고 있으며, 전공 탐색과 공동체 활동을 연계한 다양한 비교과 프로그램을 지속적으로 추진하고 있다.

SCNU’s School of Aerospace and Advanced Materials Hosts Orientation Retreat for Undeclared Freshmen
- Program promotes student adaptation, peer exchange, and academic community building

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that the School of Aerospace and Advanced Materials successfully held a two-day orientation retreat from June 29 to 30 at Jungheung Gold Spa in Naju, targeting both undeclared freshmen and current students.

This “Freshman-Senior Connection MT (Membership Training)” was part of the school’s freshman support initiative for students admitted under the undeclared major track introduced in the 2025 academic year. The program aimed to help new students adjust to university life and foster a sense of academic community before departmental assignments.

Hosted by the student council and organized by the School of Aerospace and Advanced Materials, the program was fully student-led?from planning to execution. Activities included ice-breaking games, team-based community missions, and a Q&A session with upperclassmen from various majors. The freshmen formed teams with current students to build rapport and experience collaboration.

The Q&A session provided an open platform for freshmen to ask questions about different majors and receive firsthand insights from their seniors, supporting informed decision-making for future academic paths. One participating freshman shared, “It was a great opportunity to meet students from other classes and talk to upperclassmen about their majors. I feel more confident about choosing my own path.”

Professor Shin Chang-sun, Dean of the School of Aerospace and Advanced Materials, stated, “This program goes beyond simple social bonding?it helps build mutual understanding between freshmen and seniors, and provides practical guidance for academic and career exploration. We will continue to offer student-centered programs that support personal growth and successful adjustment to university life.”

As part of the Glocal University initiative, Sunchon National University admits all incoming students as undeclared majors and offers a flexible, self-designed curriculum. The university plans to continue operating co-curricular programs that support academic exploration and foster community engagement.
