- “지역과 함께한 90년, 국립의대와 함께할 100년을 향해 걷다” …강원도서 서울 국회의사당까지 90km 도보 완주

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 개교 90주년을 기념하여, 학생들의 도전정신과 공동체 의식을 함양하고 지역 공공의료 현안에 대한 공감대를 확산하기 위해 ‘2025학년도 제21기 국토순례’ 프로그램을 운영했다고 밝혔다.

이번 국토순례는 ‘SCNU 청춘, 두 발로 공감하는 세상’을 슬로건으로, 7월 2일부터 8일까지 6박 7일간 강원특별자치도 및 서울 일대에서 진행되었으며, 총 80여 명의 학생과 교직원이 참가했다.

순례단은 강원도 주요 역사·문화 공간을 탐방하며 협동심과 성찰의 자세를 기르고, 서울 여의도 국회의사당까지 약 90km의 도보 여정을 완주했다. 특히 마지막 날인 7월 8일, 국회의사당 앞에서는 전남 동부권의 공공의료 현실을 알리고 전라남도 국립의과대학 설립의 필요성을 담은 구호를 외치기도 했다. 참가자들이 청년 세대의 시선으로 지역을 위한 메시지를 전한 뜻깊은 순간이었다.

국토순례단을 이끈 제21기 단장 성수용 총학생회장은 “국립순천대의 지난 90년을 되짚으며, 앞으로의 100년은 국립의대와 함께 지역과 동행해야 한다는 마음으로 이번 순례를 준비했다”며 “도보로 국회의사당에 도착해 우리의 목소리를 직접 전할 수 있어 더욱 의미 있었다”고 소감을 전했다. 이어 “이번 국토순례는 단순한 걷기가 아니라, 지역과 사회를 이해하고 함께 행동하는 경험이었다”라며, “협동심을 기르고, 우리 역할에 대해 다시 생각해보는 소중한 시간이었다”고 덧붙였다.

이병운 총장은 “국토순례는 단순한 체험 프로그램이 아닌, 학생들의 성장을 이끄는 교육적 여정”이라며 “이번 여정이 국립의대 설립을 향한 대학 구성원의 의지를 담아내는 동시에, 지역과 함께 미래를 설계해 나가는 중요한 전환점이 되길 바란다”라고 말했다.

한편, 국립순천대학교는 개교 90주년을 맞아 글로컬대학사업을 비롯한 다양한 지역사회 연계 프로그램을 추진하고 있으며, 국토순례는 대학의 인성과 실천 중심 교육철학을 반영한 대표적인 비교과 프로그램으로 매년 운영되고 있다.

Sunchon National University Completes 21st National Trekking Program

- “Commemorating 90 Years with the Region, Stepping Toward the Next Century with a Vision for Public Health”

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) successfully concluded its 21st National Trekking Program, held from July 2 to 8, in celebration of the university’s 90th anniversary. The weeklong event aimed to cultivate students’ spirit of challenge and sense of community, while also raising awareness about regional public health issues.

Under the slogan “SCNU Youth: Walking in Empathy with the World,” the trekking group of around 80 students and faculty members journeyed through key historical and cultural sites in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province before walking approximately 90 kilometers to the National Assembly in Seoul.

On the final day, July 8, participants held a commemorative moment in front of the National Assembly building, expressing support for improved healthcare infrastructure in eastern Jeollanam-do and sharing the vision of establishing a national medical school at Sunchon National University. This symbolic gesture conveyed young people's concern for public health and their desire to contribute to the future of the region.

Seong Su-yong, president of the student council and leader of the 21st trekking group, remarked, “As we looked back on SCNU’s 90-year history, we envisioned the next century walking together with a medical school rooted in public values. It was deeply meaningful to reach the National Assembly on foot and voice our aspirations.” He added, “This journey was not simply a physical challenge. It was an opportunity to better understand our region and society, to act together, and to reflect on our roles within the community.”

President Lee Byung-woon stated, “The National Trekking Program is not just an experiential activity?it is an educational journey that fosters student growth. I hope this year’s journey serves as a turning point in uniting our university’s aspirations with the future of the region, especially in terms of public health and education.”

As part of its 90th anniversary initiatives, SCNU is currently advancing various regional engagement programs, including the Glocal University project. The National Trekking Program remains one of the university’s flagship co-curricular activities that embodies its core educational philosophy of character and action-based learning.
