- 대학가 상권 활성화와 폭염 속 구성원 휴식권 확보를 위해 6~8월 총 8일 휴무 시행

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 지역 상권과의 상생을 위해 6월부터 8월까지 매월 1회 이상 교내식당 휴무를 시행한다고 밝혔다.

이번 조치는 경기침체와 소비심리 위축으로 어려움을 겪고 있는 대학 인근 소상공인에게 작지만 실질적인 도움을 전하는 동시에, 폭염기 근로자들의 휴식도 함께 보장하기 위해 실시한다. 

현재 국립순천대 교내식당 ‘향림마루’와 ‘읻터’는 하루 평균 약 400명의 교직원과 학생이 이용하고 있다. 휴무제를 통해 자연스럽게 캠퍼스 인근 외부 식당 이용이 늘어날 것으로 기대된다.

국립순천대는 지난 6월 27일 시범 운영을 거쳐, 오는 7월 11일(금)과 25일(금), 그리고 8월 25일(월)부터 29일까지(금)를 포함해 총 7일간 휴무제를 운영한다고 밝혔다.

이병운 총장은 “지역과 함께 성장하는 대학으로서 이번 교내식당 휴무가 인근 상권에 활력을 불어넣는 계기가 되길 바란다”라며, “향후 구성원과 지역사회의 반응을 종합해 제도의 지속 여부를 검토할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

한편, 국립순천대학교는 앞으로도 지역과의 상생을 위한 다양한 실천 정책을 지속적으로 추진해 나갈 예정이다.

SCNU Implements Campus Cafeteria Closures to Support Local Businesses
- University joins efforts to revitalize neighborhood economy with eight scheduled closure days from June to August

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) has announced the implementation of a cafeteria closure initiative aimed at revitalizing local small businesses near the campus. The university is closing its on-campus cafeterias at least once a month from June through August, totaling eight days of scheduled closures.

This initiative was introduced to provide practical support to local restaurants and self-employed workers struggling with declining sales due to prolonged economic stagnation and weakened consumer confidence. At the same time, the measure seeks to improve rest conditions for university staff working during peak summer heat.

SCNU’s main dining halls, Hyangnim Maru and Itteo Cafeteria, currently serve an average of 400 students and staff members per day. The closures are expected to increase traffic to neighboring eateries, offering a boost in local spending.

Following a pilot closure on June 27, the university has scheduled additional closure days on July 11 and 25 (Fridays), and from August 25 to 29 (Monday to Friday), making up a total of eight days.

President Lee Byung-woon commented, “As a national university committed to coexisting with the local community, we hope this initiative will help energize nearby businesses. We will carefully evaluate feedback from both our members and the community to consider continuing the program in the future.”

SCNU plans to continue developing and expanding initiatives that promote mutual growth with the local community.
