- 인간의 존엄과 지역상생을 주제로 한 10·19 기억공간 해설 사업 추진

- 오는 19일까지 박물관 전시관에서 오후 1시 30분과 3시 매일 2회 해설, 현장 참가도 가능

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 10·19연구소(소장 최관호)는 12월 16일부터 19일까지 국립순천대학교 박물관 내 10·19기억공간에서 ‘인간의 존엄과 지역상생을 위한 10·19 다크투어 거버넌스 구축’을 주제로 한 해설 사업을 운영한다고 밝혔다.

10·19기억공간은 10·19사건의 역사적 의미와 정체성을 재조명하고, 오랜 기간 해결되지 못한 지역사회의 역사 현안을 성찰하는 기록과 논의의 장이다. 국립순천대학교는 이 공간을 통해 시민과 학생의 역사·인권 의식을 높이고, 지역 국립대학으로서의 공적 책무를 실천하며 여순사건에 대한 사회적 관심과 공감대를 확산하고자 이번 해설 사업을 기획했다.

해설 프로그램은 12월 16일 오후 1시, 여수·순천10·19사건 진상규명 및 희생자명예회복위원회 임송본 위원의 특별 강연으로 시작되었다. 이후 12월 19일까지 매일 두 차례씩 총 8회에 걸쳐 여수, 순천, 광양, 구례 지역에서 활동하는 여순사건 연구자와 시민사회 활동가들이 참여해 학생과 시민을 대상으로 해설과 강연을 진행한다.

해설 사업을 담당하는 김미경 10·19연구소 연구원은 “특별기획전이 열리는 기간 동안 전문 강사의 해설을 통해 10·19사건의 맥락과 의미를 보다 깊이 이해할 수 있는 기회가 될 것”이라며, “시민과 학생들의 역사 인식과 평화·인권 감수성을 높이는 데 기여하길 기대한다”고 말했다.

최관호 10·19연구소 소장은 “10·19기억공간은 지역민과 연구자, 유족들에게 중요한 의미를 지닌 공간”이라며, “여순사건의 진실을 사회에 알리고 공감대를 확산해 왜곡된 역사 인식을 바로잡는 공적 교육의 장으로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 해설 프로그램은 12월 19일까지 오후 1시 30분부터 2시 30분, 오후 3시부터 4시까지 운영된다. 단체 또는 개인은 10·19연구소로 문의하면 참여할 수 있으며, 사전 신청 없이 현장 방문을 통해서도 해설에 참여할 수 있다.

SCNU’s 10·19 Research Institute Operates Guided Program at the 10·19 Memory Space

Sunchon National University announced that its 10·19 Research Institute conducted a guided interpretation program at the 10·19 Memory Space, located inside the university museum, from December 16 to December 19, 2025. The program was organized to build a “10·19 Dark Tourism Governance Model” centered on human dignity and regional coexistence.

The 10·19 Memory Space serves as a place for records and reflection, reexamining the historical meaning and identity of the 10·19 Incident and addressing unresolved regional historical issues that have remained for more than 77 years. Through professional interpretation and public engagement, the program aimed to enhance historical awareness and human rights consciousness among citizens and students, while reinforcing the social responsibility of a national university and encouraging broader public interest in the 10·19 Incident.

The program opened on December 16 with a special lecture delivered by a member of the Yeosu?Suncheon 10·19 Incident Truth and Victim Honor Restoration Committee. From December 16 to 19, a total of eight guided sessions were held, led by researchers and civic activists from Yeosu, Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Gurye, offering in-depth explanations and lectures for students and local residents.

A researcher involved in the program noted that visitors were able to gain a deeper understanding of the 10·19 Incident through expert-led interpretation during the special exhibition period, and expressed expectations that the program would contribute meaningfully to peace-oriented human rights education and the cultivation of historical awareness.

The director of the 10·19 Research Institute emphasized that the Memory Space is an important venue for local residents, historians, and bereaved families, and stated that the institute will continue its efforts to present the historical truth of the 10·19 Incident, correct distorted historical perceptions, and promote proper historical education through sustained public engagement.

The guided sessions were held twice daily. On December 16, sessions took place from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. and from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. From December 17 to 19, sessions were held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Participation was open to both individuals and groups, with advance inquiries available through the 10·19 Research Institute, and walk-in participation also welcomed.
