- 5개 대학 재학생을 대상으로 운영

- 위험사회에 대비하기 위한 문제해결 역량 강화… 팀별 프로젝트·경진대회

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 위험사회 컨소시엄 인문사회융합인재양성사업단(이하 ‘위험사회 HUSS 사업단’)은 지난 7월 20일부터 8월 19일까지 약 한 달간, 위험사회 컨소시엄 5개 대학(선문대학교, 세종대학교, 국립순천대학교, 순천향대학교, 국립한밭대학교) 재학생을 대상으로 한 ‘사회문제해결 미국 글로벌캠프’에 참여했다고 밝혔다.

이번 글로벌 캠프는 미국 네바다 주립대학교와의 협업을 통해 진행되었으며, HUSS ‘위험사회에 대한 국가전략 모색’컨소시엄 사업단 대학 학생들의 글로벌 소통 역량 증진과 자기주도적 솔루션 도출 능력을 키우기 위해 운영되었다.

또한 인문사회융합인재양성전공 교과목을 수강한 학생들은 해외 대학과의 교류를 통해 위험사회에서 발생할 수 있는 현지 문제를 탐색하고, 이를 다양한 시각과 창의적인 방법으로 해결하는 데 중점을 두었다.

각 대학에서 5명씩 선발하여 총 25명이 참여한 이번 글로벌캠프는 ▲위험사회와 관련된 주제 도출과 문제 탐색 ▲문제해결을 위한 팀별 프로젝트 수행 ▲현지 액티비티 활동 및 문화 답사 ▲해외 대학 교류 및 워크숍 활동 ▲팀별 프로젝트 결과 발표 및 경진대회 등 다채로운 프로그램으로 구성되었다.

학생들은 네바다 주립대학교에서 운영된 워크숍을 통해 주제 선정, 탐색, 문제 해결 아이디어 발굴, 해결 방안 제시, 기대효과 및 향후 과제 도출의 과정을 경험하며 팀별 프로젝트를 수행했다. 글로벌캠프 마지막 날에는 팀별 숏폼 영상 발표와 최종 결과물 프레젠테이션이 진행되었으며, 프로젝트 수행 성과에 대한 각 팀의 발표와 시상식도 이루어졌다. 각 대학 교수진이 발표 성과를 평가했고, 현지 문화 액티비티 활동, 해외 대학 학생들과의 교류 활동 등이 있었다.

국립순천대학교 김선명 사업단장은 “한 달이라는 기간 동안 학생들이 해외에서 지내며 한국에서는 느낄 수 없었던 사회 문제를 깊이 고민해볼 수 있는 기회였다.”며, “이번 사회문제해결 미국 글로벌캠프를 통해 학생들이 자기주도적으로 문제를 해결하는 과정을 통해 소중한 경험을 얻었길 바란다”고 전했다.

한편, 위험사회 HUSS 사업단은 국립순천대학교를 비롯해 선문대학교, 세종대학교, 순천향대학교, 국립한밭대학교가 함께 컨소시엄을 구성해 운영 중이다. 본 사업은 2023년부터 교육부와 한국연구재단의 지원을 받아 인문사회 기반의 융합교육을 통해 사회적 실천 역량을 갖춘 인재 양성을 목표로 다양한 교육 프로그램을 추진하고 있다.

SCNU HUSS Program Joins “Global Camp for Social Problem-Solving” in the United States

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that its Humanities Utmost Sharing System (HUSS) program, part of the “Risk Society” consortium, participated in the Global Camp for Social Problem-Solving in the U.S. from July 20 to August 19. The month-long program brought together students from five consortium universities?Sun Moon University, Sejong University, Sunchon National University, Soonchunhyang University, and Hanbat National University.

Held in partnership with the University of Nevada, the camp aimed to strengthen students’ global communication skills and problem-solving abilities in the context of risk society. Through collaboration with international peers, students explored local challenges that may arise in risk societies and worked on creative, interdisciplinary solutions.

A total of 25 students, five from each university, engaged in diverse activities: identifying and exploring social issues, conducting team-based projects, participating in cultural excursions, attending workshops with overseas faculty, and presenting results in a final competition. At the University of Nevada, students experienced the full cycle of project-based learning?from topic selection and problem analysis to idea development, solution proposals, and impact assessment. On the final day, teams presented their projects through short-form videos and final presentations, followed by evaluations and an awards ceremony.

Kim Sun-myung, Director of the HUSS Program at SCNU, remarked, “This camp gave students the unique opportunity to experience and analyze social issues in an overseas context, which they could not easily encounter in Korea. I hope this hands-on process of problem-solving will remain a valuable experience for their growth.”

The HUSS “Risk Society” consortium, established in 2023 with support from the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, is jointly run by SCNU, Sun Moon University, Sejong University, Soonchunhyang University, and Hanbat National University. Its mission is to cultivate socially engaged talents through humanities-based, interdisciplinary education designed to respond to the challenges of contemporary risk societies.
