-  “실버세대, 디지털 체험 속 또 다른 배움의 즐거움”

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) SW중심대학사업단은 지난 8월 16일(금) 여수시 화양면에 위치한 이목평생학교에서 지역사회 소프트웨어(SW) 가치 확산의 일환으로 ‘인공지능(AI) 그림 그리기 체험 수업’을 진행했다.

이목평생학교는 폐교된 옛 이목초등학교를 활용해 2003년부터 운영하고 있으며, 지역 주민을 위한 문해교육 등 글 배우기에 대한 열망이 컷던 실버세대를 위한‘글꽃 교실’을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다.

이번 수업은 AI를 활용해 자신만의 캐릭터를 디자인하고, 이를 머그컵에 인쇄하는 체험형 교육으로 진행됐다. 처음 접하는 디지털 기술에 다소 긴장하고 동작은 서툴렀지만, 교육생들의 눈빛은 환하게 빛났다. 직접 만든 AI 캐릭터가 머그컵에 새겨진 결과물을 확인한 순간 교실 가득 박수와 웃음꽃이 활짝 피었다.

수업에 참가한 한 교육생은 “글을 넘어 AI까지 배우며 삶이 더 풍요로워 짐을 느낄 수 있었다.”고 밝혔다.

SW중심대학사업단 심춘보 단장은 “소프트웨어에 대한 접근 기회가 없는 실버세대에게 AI와 같은 디지털 기술을 쉽고 즐겁게 접할 수 있는 계기가 됐다”며, “앞으로도 SW교육에서 소외된 지역민을 대상으로 다양한 체험 기회를 제공하며 소프트웨어 가치 확산에 지속적으로 힘쓸 계획이다”고 전했다.

한편, 국립순천대학교 SW중심대학사업은 과학기술정보통신부와 정보통신기획평가원(IITP)의 지원을 받아 전라남도, 순천시·광양시·고흥군이 함께 참여하고 있으며, 지역 내 SW 가치 확산을 위한 다양한 교육 프로그램을 운영하고 있다.

Sunchon National University Conducts AI Drawing Workshop for Lifelong Learners

Sunchon National University’s Software-Centered University Project Group held an “AI Drawing Workshop” on August 16 at Imok Lifelong School in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.

Imok Lifelong School, established in 2003 by repurposing a closed elementary school, has long provided literacy and lifelong education programs for elderly residents eager to continue learning.

The workshop guided participants in creating their own characters using AI tools and printing them onto mugs. Despite initial unfamiliarity with digital technology, participants expressed great excitement and joy when receiving their personalized results.

One participant commented, “Learning AI beyond literacy has made my life feel richer.”

Project Director Prof. Chunbo Shim stated, “This program gave older generations-who often lack opportunities to access digital technologies-an enjoyable and meaningful experience with AI. We will continue to expand similar programs to promote the value of software in our local communities.”

The SW-Centered University Project at Sunchon National University is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP), with local governments including Jeollanam-do, Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Goheung participating to spread the value of software education in the region.
