- 천연화장품과학과 부설 연구소 개소,  AI·IoT·바이오 융합기술 기반 차세대 뷰티 솔루션 연구 추진

- 전남화장품산업혁신협회·광양미용학원과 협약… 지역 ‘스마트 뷰티 클러스터’ 육성 시동

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 일반대학원 천연화장품과학과(학과장 이민아)가 지난 13일 교내 도서관 3층 상상라운지에서 부설 연구소인‘스마트뷰티테크연구소’ 개소식을 열고, 미래형 K-뷰티 산업을 선도할 연구 거점으로의 도약을 선언했다.

이날 행사에는 문승태 국립순천대 부총장을 비롯해 신민호·한숙경 전남도의원, 장미정 전남테크노파크 센터장, 최문희 (사)전남화장품산업혁신협회 회장, 신현재 조선대 교수, 모리유키 카와우치 일본 교토대 교수 등 국내외 산·학·연·관 관계자 50여 명이 참석해 연구소 출범을 축하했다.

국립순천대 스마트뷰티테크연구소(소장 유수연, 약학과 교수)는 지난 5월 16일 설립 승인 이후 현재까지 24명의 연구원과 연구보조원이 활동 중이다. 연구소는 향후 AI·IoT·바이오 융합기술을 접목해 ▲개인 맞춤형 화장품 ▲피부 진단 시스템 ▲친환경 소재 개발 등 차세대 뷰티 솔루션 연구를 추진할 예정이다.

이날 개소식에서는 (사)전남화장품산업혁신협회, 광양미용학원의 업무협약(MOU)도 함께 이루어졌다. 스마트뷰티테크연구소와 천연화장품과학과는 협약을 기반으로 K-뷰티 산업 혁신과 기술사업화를 촉진하고, 실무 중심 전문교육을 강화하는 등 지역사회 발전과 글로벌 인재 양성에 앞장설 것으로 기대된다.

유수연 연구소장은 “맞춤형·지속가능성 중심으로 변화하는 글로벌 뷰티산업 흐름에 대응해, 지역 산업체와 공동 프로젝트, 인재 양성, 기술 이전을 통해 순천과 전남 동부권을 ‘스마트 뷰티 클러스터’로 성장시키겠다”라고 밝혔으며, 이민아 학과장은 “국립순천대 천연화장품과학과가 중심이 되어 기술·디자인·데이터 기반 연구로 산업계와 소비자가 모두 만족할 수 있는 혁신을 이룰 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”라고 밝혔다.

Sunchon National University Launches “Smart Beauty Tech Research Institute” to Lead Regional and Global Beauty Innovation

- Collaboration agreements signed with local beauty industry associations and training institutions to foster a regional “Smart Beauty Cluster” 

Sunchon National University (President Byung-Woon Lee) has officially launched the Smart Beauty Tech Research Institute, an affiliated institute of the Graduate School’s Department of Natural Cosmetics Science, declaring its vision to become a hub for next-generation beauty innovation. The opening ceremony was held on August 13 at the university library’s Imagine Lounge, with over 50 representatives from academia, industry, and government in attendance, including university leadership, local government officials, and international scholars.

Since its official approval in May, the institute has brought together 24 researchers and assistants to pursue advanced research in personalized cosmetics, skin diagnostic systems, and eco-friendly materials. These efforts integrate artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and biotechnology to develop innovative beauty solutions that meet the evolving demands of the global market.

To further strengthen collaboration, the university signed memoranda of understanding with the Jeonnam Cosmetic Industry Innovation Association and the Gwangyang Beauty Academy during the event. These partnerships will promote industrial innovation, accelerate technology commercialization, and enhance practice-based professional training, thereby contributing both to regional development and global talent cultivation.

Professor Soo-Yeon Yoo, Director of the institute, emphasized that the research center will play a pivotal role in building a “Smart Beauty Cluster” in Sunchon and the eastern Jeonnam region by leading joint projects with local industries, training future professionals, and transferring technologies. Professor Min-A Lee, Chair of the Department of Natural Cosmetics Science, also noted that the university is committed to advancing research that combines technology, design, and data-driven approaches, aiming to deliver innovations that benefit both industry stakeholders and consumers.

With the establishment of the Smart Beauty Tech Research Institute, Sunchon National University has taken an important step toward positioning itself as a leader in the transformation of the beauty industry, aligning regional strengths with global innovation trends.
