- 아이누 민속 공연과 서울 지역문화 탐방으로학술·문화 교류의 장 마련

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 인문사회 디지털 융합인재양성사업단은 지난 8월 13일부터 14일까지 이틀간, 한국외국어대학교와 서울 일대에서 재학생 및 교직원 30여 명이 참여한 가운데 「한일 전통문화 교류 및 지역문화 탐방방」 프로그램을 진행했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 한국외국어대학교 일본연구소, 한국일어일문학회, 국립순천대 인문사회 디지털 융합인재양성사업단, 국립순천대 글로벌 일본연구소가 공동 주최했으며, 한일 수교 정상화 60주년을 기념하는 학술·문화 교류의 일환으로 마련되었다.

프로그램의 핵심은 일본 홋카이도의 원주민인 아이누족의 민속 공연을 직접 관람하고, 그들의 전통문화를 조사·체험하는 것이었다. 특히 삿포로 우포포 보존회가 내한하여 선보인 민속무용 공연은 참가자들에게 큰 울림을 주었다. 공연은 좌가(앉아서 부르는 노래), 입하프, 술 거르기 춤, 학춤, 칼춤 등 총 17종의 전통무용으로 구성되었으며, 아이누족이 지켜온 고유한 음악과 춤의 미학을 생생하게 전하는 장이 되었다.

공연에 앞서 한국외대 박용구 교수는 「아이누와 조선, 그 사이에서 태어난 이야기」라는 특강을 통해 아이누와 한반도 간의 역사적 연관성과 문화적 교류를 설명하며 참가자들의 이해를 도왔다.

둘째 날에는 국립중앙박물관을 방문하여 서울의 지역문화와 역사적 자원을 탐방했다. 참가자들은 전시 관람을 통해 한국 문화유산의 풍부한 가치를 체험하고, 이를 일본 전통문화와 비교하며 문화적 안목을 넓혔다. 이번 활동은 재학생들에게 지역과 세계를 잇는 문화적 감수성을 길러주고, 문화유산을 학문적·교육적으로 활용할 수 있는 역량을 강화하는 계기가 되었다.

 이번 「한일 전통문화 교류 및 지역문화 탐방」은 한일 양국의 전통문화를 매개로 학문적 교류와 문화적 이해를 증진하는 성과를 거두었다. 프로그램을 주최한 조래철 단장은 “아이누족의 민속 공연은 학생들이 기존 교과 과정에서 접하기 어려운 생생한 현장 체험의 기회를 제공했으며, 국제적 소통과 상호 존중의 가치를 몸소 배우는 계기가 되었다”며, “이번 프로그램을 토대로 향후에도 다양한 국제교류 프로그램을 지속 추진하여 지역 기반 대학으로서 세계와 소통하는 인재를 양성해 나갈 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

Sunchon National University’s HUSS Program Celebrates 60 Years of Korea?Japan Relations with Cultural Exchange

- Students experience Ainu heritage and Korean cultural treasures through academic and cultural immersion

Sunchon National University (President Byung-Woon Lee) announced that its Humanities and Social Sciences Digital Convergence Talent Development Program (HUSS) hosted the “Korea?Japan Traditional Culture Exchange and Local Cultural Exploration” program on August 13?14. The two-day program, held in collaboration with Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and partner organizations, brought together over 30 students and faculty to commemorate the 60th anniversary of normalized diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan.

Jointly organized by SNU’s HUSS program, the Global Japan Research Institute, the Institute of Japanese Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and the Korean Association of Japanese Language and Literature, the initiative aimed to foster both academic and cultural exchange.

The highlight of the program was a live performance of traditional folk dances and songs by the Ainu people, the indigenous community of Hokkaido, Japan. The Sapporo Upopo Preservation Society presented 17 traditional pieces, including ritual chants, harp music, and symbolic dances such as the crane and sword dances, offering students an authentic cultural encounter. The performance was preceded by a lecture from Professor Yong-Gu Park (HUFS), titled “Ainu and Joseon: Stories Born Between”, which provided historical and cultural context on Korea?Ainu relations.

On the second day, participants visited the National Museum of Korea, where they explored the richness of Korea’s cultural and historical heritage, broadening their perspectives by comparing it with Japanese traditions. This helped students develop greater cultural literacy and academic appreciation of heritage resources.

Professor Rae-Cheol Cho, director of the HUSS program, emphasized, “The Ainu performance offered a unique, first-hand experience that cannot be found in textbooks, and it gave students the chance to learn the values of international communication and mutual respect. Building on this initiative, we will continue to expand international exchange programs, cultivating globally engaged talent as a university rooted in the local community.”
