- 농산어촌 학교 찾아가는 수학·과학 체험 운영

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 과학영재교육원은 지난 7월 4일부터 17일까지 고흥군, 보성군, 구례군 소재 초·중학교 6개교 학생 총 324명을 대상으로 ‘2025 고흥군·보성군·구례군 찾아가는 창의체험 놀이터’를 운영했다고 밝혔다.

 이번 프로그램은 국립대학육성사업의 일환으로, 농산어촌 학교 학생들에게 수학·과학의 원리와 법칙을 직접 보고, 실험하고, 체험할 수 있는 기회를 제공해 교육격차를 해소하고자 기획됐다. 다양한 수학, 과학교구를 활용한 체험을 통해 학생들의 직관적인 이해를 돕고, 수학·과학에 대한 관심과 호기심을 자극하는 데 목적을 두고 있다.

 주요 체험 프로그램으로는 ▲하늘을 건너는 수학의 마술 ▲회전체의 마법 스피리콘으로의 변신 ▲그래비트랙스 속 숨겨진 과학원리 ▲3D펜을 이용한 지구의 만들기 총 4개의 다양한 프로그램이 2시간 동안 진행됐다.

참가 학생들은 “단순히 공이 굴러가는 교구라고 생각했던 그래비트랙스 속에도 다양한 과학의 원리가 숨어 있다는 사실이 놀라웠다. 특히 공이 높은 곳에서 출발할수록 더 빠르게 움직이고 멀리 간다는 사실은 위치에너지가 운동에너지로 바뀐다는 개념을 쉽게 알 수 있어서 좋은 경험이었다”고 소감을 전했다.

 국립순천대학교 과학영재교육원은 오는 8~9월에도 체험활동이 기회가 부족한 지역 초·중학교를 직접 방문해 질적으로 우수한 창의체험 프로그램을 제공할 계획이다.

한편, 국립순천대 과학영재교육원은 2003년부터 과학기술정보통신부 산하 한국과학창의재단 주관하에 정부 과학기술진흥기금 및 복권기금과 순천시의 지원으로 운영되고 있다.

SCNU Science Education Center for the Gifted Successfully Concludes “2025 Goheung, Boseong, and Gurye Visiting Creative Experience Playground” 

- Bringing hands-on math and science experiences to rural schools

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-woon) announced that its Science Education Center for the Gifted successfully operated the 2025 Goheung, Boseong, and Gurye Visiting Creative Experience Playground from July 4 to 17, reaching a total of 324 students at six elementary and middle schools in Goheung County, Boseong County, and Gurye County.

As part of the National University Development Project, the program was designed to bridge the education gap by providing students in rural and fishing communities with opportunities to directly observe, experiment with, and experience the principles and laws of mathematics and science. Through interactive activities using various math and science teaching tools, the program aimed to promote intuitive understanding and spark curiosity and interest in the subjects.

The main activities included four programs conducted over a two-hour session: ▲ The Magic of Mathematics Crossing the Sky ▲ Transformation into the Magical Spiricon of Rotating Bodies ▲ The Hidden Science Behind GraviTrax ▲ Creating the Earth with a 3D Pen.

One participating student shared, “I was surprised to learn that there are so many scientific principles hidden in what I thought was just a ball-rolling toy like GraviTrax. It was fascinating to see how a ball moves faster and farther when starting from a higher point, which helped me easily understand the concept of potential energy converting into kinetic energy.”

The SCNU Science Education Center for the Gifted plans to continue delivering high-quality creative experience programs to elementary and middle schools in regions with limited access to such activities in August and September.

Since its establishment in 2003, the SCNU Science Education Center for the Gifted has been operated with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, the Government’s Science and Technology Promotion Fund, the Lottery Fund, and Suncheon City.
