- 지역 유관기관 연계로 AI·메타버스 기반 창의융합코딩교실 운영

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 과학영재교육원은 지난달 21일, 순천시청소년수련관의 ‘방과 후 아카데미’ 참여 학생과 그 가족을 대상으로 ‘2025 창의융합코딩교실-가족과 함께 하는 창의융합캠프’를 운영했다고 밝혔다.

‘방과 후 아카데미’는 돌봄이 필요한 초·중학생을 대상으로 체험활동, 학습지원, 급식, 상담 등을 종합적으로 제공하는 지역 청소년 성장지원 프로그램이다.

국립순천대 과학영재교육원은 국립대학육성사업의 일환으로 청소년의 소프트웨어(SW) 역량 강화와 문제해결 능력 향상을 위한 창의융합코딩교실을 운영하고 있으며, 지역 유관기관과의 협력을 지속해 오고 있다.

이번 캠프는 국립대학육성사업의 지원을 받아 마련된 6시간 과정의 체험형 수업으로, 가족이 함께 참여해 AI와 메타버스 기술을 활용한 창의력 향상과 가족 간 소통, 유대감 형성에 중점을 두었다.

주요 프로그램은 ▲우리는 AI 창작자(생성형 AI 작가 만나기, AI 그림 퀴즈, AI 활용 승화전사 작품 만들기), ▲하늘을 나는 과학(종이비행기의 과학 원리 탐색, 워크 어롱 글라이더 대회, 종이비행기 체험) 등으로 구성되었다.

참여한 학생은 “날개의 접는 방향에 따라 비행 방향과 속도가 달라진다는 과학 원리를 직접 체험할 수 있어 매우 유익했다”고 소감을 전했으며, 함께한 학부모들도 “아이와 함께 종이비행기 추억을 나누며 즐거운 시간을 보냈다”고 말했다.

김현우 과학영재교육원장은 “앞으로도 지역 유관기관과의 협력을 통해 청소년을 위한 질 높은 미래역량 교육을 지속 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 국립순천대학교 과학영재교육원은 2003년부터 과학기술정보통신부 산하 한국과학창의재단의 주관 아래, 과학기술진흥기금 및 복권기금으로 운영되고 있다.

SCNU Science Gifted Education Center Hosts AI and Coding Camp for Families
 Hands-on STEAM program integrates AI and metaverse to foster creativity and family engagement

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that its Science Gifted Education Center successfully hosted the 2025 Creative Convergence Coding School -Family AI & Coding Camp on June 21. The event was held in collaboration with the Suncheon Youth Center’s “After School Academy” program and supported by the Ministry of Education’s National University Promotion Project.

The “After School Academy” is a community-based initiative that provides after-school care, experiential learning, academic support, meals, and counseling for elementary and middle school students in need of additional supervision and growth opportunities.

As part of the university’s effort to strengthen youth digital competencies, SCNU’s Science Gifted Education Center operates the Creative Convergence Coding School to enhance students’ software (SW) skills and problem-solving abilities. This recent camp was a six-hour family-centered program focused on strengthening creativity through AI and metaverse-based activities, while also promoting communication and bonding among family members.

Key activities included: ▲We Are AI Creators: Meeting generative AI tools, AI art quizzes, and producing sublimation printing artworks using AI ▲The Science of Flight: Exploring aerodynamics through paper airplanes, a “Walk-Along Glider” contest, and paper plane experiments

A participating student commented, “It was a fun and eye-opening experience to learn how the way we fold paper wings changes how they fly. I could really feel the science behind it.” A parent added, “I was reminded of my childhood memories with paper planes, and sharing that moment with my child made it truly meaningful.”

Professor Kim Hyun-woo, Director of the Science Gifted Education Center, stated, “We will continue working with local organizations to expand high-quality educational programs that build future competencies for youth in the region.”

Since 2003, the SCNU Science Gifted Education Center has been supported by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity under the Ministry of Science and ICT, funded by the National R&D Promotion Fund and the Lottery Fund.
