- 제주대 박물관, 제주대 재일제주인센터와 상호 교류 및 연구 협력 모색

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 인문학술원은 오는 5월 30일(금) 오후 3시, 인문예술대학 1층 교수회의실에서 ‘냉전시기 동아시아 지역사회 교류’를 주제로 콜로키움을 개최한다.

이번 콜로키움은 2023년 한국연구재단 인문사회연구소지원사업에 선정된 인문학술원의 연구과제인‘동아시아 냉전과 지역사회의 내파(內破)’의 일환으로 마련됐다. 행사에는 순천대학교 인문학술원을 비롯해 제주대학교 박물관, 제주대학교 재일제주인센터가 공동 주최 기관으로 참여한다.

세 기관은 앞서 상호 협력 및 교류를 약속한 바 있으며, 이번 콜로키움은 실질적인 첫 공동 학술행사라는 점에서 의미를 더한다. 발표자로는 각 기관의 기관장인 강성호 순천대 인문학술원장, 전영준 제주대 박물관장, 손영석 제주대 재일제주인센터장이 직접 나서 발표를 진행할 예정이다.

제1부는 강성호 국립순천대 인문학술원장의 개회사와 함께 전영준 제주대 박물관장, 손영석 제주대 재일제주인센터장의 축사로 시작된다. 이어, 제2부는 주제 발표 세션으로, 강성호 인문학술원장이 ‘동아시아 냉전과 지역사회 교류’를 주제로 냉전 시기 지역의 동향과 상호 관계를 조명한다. 전영준 박물관장은 ‘제주사회와 성장한 대학박물관의 현재와 미래’를 발표하며 제주 사회의 정체성과 대학박물관의 보존 역할에 대해 다룬다. 손영석 재일재주인센터장은 ‘재일제주인 공동체 형성과 의미’를 통해 일본으로 이주한 제주인의 공동체 형성과 사회적 의미를 설명할 예정이다. 각 발표자는 해당 주제 외에도 소속 기관의 연구 성과 및 교류 실적을 함께 공유한다. 마지막, 제3부에서는 발표자 및 김종찬(제주대), 권오수(순천대), 송화정(제주대), 우승완(순천대), 예대열(순천대) 등의 연구자들이 참여해 동아시아 냉전 속 지역사회 교류와 연구기관 간 학술 협력에 대해 심도 깊은 논의를 펼칠 예정이다.     

강성호 인문학술원장은 “국립순천대 인문학술원은 동아시아 냉전시기 지역에 주목하는 기관”이라며, “특히 냉전시기 순천에 주목하고 있는데, 지역의 다른 연구기관과의 협력을 통해 연구의 시너지를 극대화하고 싶다”고 밝혔다. 또한 “지역에 특화된 새로운 자료를 조사, 수집하고 이를 정리해서 다량의 데이터베이스를 구축하고 싶다”고 덧붙였다.

한편, 콜로키움은 국립순천대학교 인문학술원, 제주대학교 박물관, 제주대학교 재일제주인센터가 공동 주최하고, 한국연구재단과 국립순천대학교의 후원으로 진행된다.

Sunchon National University Institute for Humanities to Host Colloquium on Cold War-Era Community Exchanges in East Asia

Sunchon National University (President Byung-Woon Lee) announced that its Institute for Humanities will host a colloquium titled “Community Exchanges in East Asia during the Cold War” on Friday, May 30 at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place in the faculty conference room on the first floor of the College of Humanities and Arts.

This colloquium is part of the institute’s ongoing research project “The Cold War in East Asia and the Implosion of Local Communities,” which was selected for support through the 2023 Humanities and Social Sciences Research Institute Program funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea. The event is co-hosted by the Institute for Humanities at Sunchon National University, the Jeju National University Museum, and the Jeju National University Center for Zainichi Jeju Studies.

Having previously signed a mutual cooperation agreement, the three institutions are holding their first joint academic event through this colloquium, marking the beginning of a meaningful research partnership. The heads of each institution?Professor Seong-ho Kang (Sunchon National University Institute for Humanities), Professor Young-joon Jeon (Jeju National University Museum), and Professor Young-seok Son (Jeju National University Center for Zainichi Jeju Studies)?will serve as the presenters.

Part I of the event will begin with opening remarks by Professor Kang, followed by congratulatory addresses from Professors Jeon and Son. In Part II, each of the three directors will deliver a keynote presentation: Professor Kang will present on “The Cold War in East Asia and Community Exchange,” examining the regional dynamics and inter-community relations of the era. Professor Jeon will speak on “The Present and Future of University Museums Grown Within the Jeju Community,” addressing the museum’s role in preserving local identity. Professor Son will present “The Formation and Meaning of the Zainichi Jeju Community,” shedding light on the migration and social cohesion of Jeju islanders in Japan. Each speaker will also share their institution’s recent research outcomes and collaborative activities.

In Part III, a panel discussion will be held with scholars including Professors Jong-chan Kim (Jeju National University), Oh-soo Kwon (Sunchon National University), Hwa-jung Song (Jeju National University), Seung-wan Woo (Sunchon National University), and Dae-yeol Ye (Sunchon National University). The discussion will focus on community exchanges during the East Asian Cold War and the prospects for academic collaboration between research institutions.

Professor Kang noted, “The Sunchon National University Institute for Humanities is particularly focused on Cold War-era developments in regional communities such as Suncheon,” and added, “Through cooperation with other local institutions, we aim to maximize research synergy.” He also emphasized plans to “collect and organize region-specific historical materials and build a substantial research database.”

The colloquium is jointly organized by the Sunchon National University Institute for Humanities, Jeju National University Museum, and Jeju National University Center for Zainichi Jeju Studies, and is supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea and Sunchon National University.
