- 대학생·지역민 협력해 교통·환경·복지 등 지역 문제 해결 아이디어 제시

- '30초 STOP'팀, 보행 안전 개선 아이디어로 대상 영예…순천시청·순청경찰서 정책 안건 채택 눈길

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 지난 11일 순천시 생태비즈니스센터 컨퍼런스홀에서 ‘2025 지역현안 문제해결 리빙랩 결과보고회’를 개최하고, 대학과 지역이 함께 도출한 문제해결 성과를 공유했다고 밝혔다.

이번 결과보고회는 국립순천대학교 재학생과 지역민으로 구성된 ‘대학해결단’ 5개 팀이 약 4개월간 수행한 리빙랩(Living Lab) 프로젝트의 성과를 발표하고, 실행 가능성과 정책 연계 가능성을 종합적으로 점검하는 자리로 마련됐다. 행사에는 대학과 순천시 관계자, 참여 학생과 지역 주민 등 60여 명이 참석해 팀별 성과전시와 발표를 함께 지켜봤다.

리빙랩 프로젝트는 대학생의 창의적 시각과 지역민의 생활 경험을 결합해 지역 현안을 발굴하고, 실제 정책 제안까지 이어지는 참여형 문제해결 모델로 운영됐다. 심사위원단은 각 팀의 발표를 대상으로 문제 인식의 적절성, 해결 방안의 실현 가능성, 지역사회 기여도 등을 중심으로 평가를 진행했다.

최종 심사 결과, 고령 보행자가 많은 지역 특성을 반영해 횡단보도 신호 체계 개선과 안내 음성 볼륨 상향을 제안한 ‘30초 STOP’팀이 대상(총장상)을 수상했다. 해당 제안은 실제 순천시청과 경찰서의 정책 검토 안건으로 채택되는 성과를 거두며 현장 실행력 측면에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

이 밖에도 ‘우리동네수호대’팀은 담배꽁초 무단투기 문제해결을 위한 친환경 스마트 클린업 아이디어를, ‘S라인’팀은 낙후된 지하상가 활성화 방안을, ‘조례호수’팀은 호수공원 환경 정화 캠페인을 각각 제안하는 등 환경·안전·복지 분야에서 지역 맞춤형 아이디어를 선보여 주목받았다.

국립순천대 이병운 총장은 “이번 리빙랩은 대학과 지역사회가 함께 현실의 문제를 마주하고, 스스로 해결책을 만들어 가는 실천적 교육의 장이었다”라며, “학생과 시민이 주체가 되어 제안한 아이디어들이 지역 변화의 출발점이 되길 기대한다”라고 말했다.

한편, 국립순천대학교는 ‘지역현안 문제해결 리빙랩’을 통해 대학의 교육·연구 역량을 지역사회와 연결하는 글로컬 혁신 모델을 지속적으로 확산해 나갈 계획이다.

SCNU Shares Outcomes of “2025 Local Issues Living Lab Program”

- Students and local residents collaborate on solutions for traffic safety, environment, and welfare

Sunchon National University (SCNU) held the “2025 Local Issues Living Lab Final Presentation” on December 11 at the Suncheon Ecological Business Center, sharing problem-solving outcomes jointly developed by the university and the local community.

The event showcased the results of four months of Living Lab projects carried out by five teams composed of SCNU students and local residents. About 60 participants, including university officials, city representatives, students, and community members, attended the event, which featured team presentations and project exhibitions.

The Living Lab program operates as a participatory problem-solving model that combines students’ creative perspectives with residents’ lived experiences to identify local issues and develop policy-oriented solutions. Projects were evaluated based on problem relevance, feasibility of solutions, and contribution to the local community.

As a result of the final evaluation, the “30-Second STOP” team won the Grand Prize (President’s Award) for proposing improvements to pedestrian crosswalk signal systems and audio guidance in areas with high numbers of elderly pedestrians. The proposal was officially reviewed as a policy agenda by Suncheon City and the local police, earning high marks for practical impact.

Other teams presented region-specific ideas, including an eco-friendly solution to reduce cigarette litter, strategies to revitalize aging underground shopping areas, and environmental cleanup campaigns for local lake parks, drawing attention for their applicability in environmental, safety, and welfare fields.

SCNU President Lee Byeong-un stated that the Living Lab served as a hands-on educational platform where the university and community jointly addressed real-world challenges, adding that he hopes the ideas proposed by students and citizens will become starting points for meaningful local change.

SCNU plans to continue expanding the Living Lab as a glocal innovation model that connects the university’s education and research capabilities with regional development.
