48시간 만에 400여 명 수강 신청, 지역사회 뜨거운 관심

… 2025년 9월부터 시범운영 거쳐, 2026년부터 정규 과정 본격 운영 돌입

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 지난 8월 27일 필리핀 무뇨스시에 위치한 센트럴루존주립대학교(CLSU, Central Luzon State University)에서 ‘무뇨스 세종학당’ 개소식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 개소는 국립순천대학교와 센트럴루존주립대학교의 협력으로 이뤄낸 성과로, 필리핀 현지에서 한국어와 한국문화 교육에 대한 관심을 제도적으로 확산시키는 중요한 전환점이 될 것으로 기대된다.

개소식 행사에는 이병운 국립순천대학교 총장, 아벨라 에바리스토 센트럴루존주립대학교 총장, 주필리핀 한국대사관 상승만 총영사, 베이비 아르미 알바레스 뮤뇨스시 시장 등 주요 인사를 비롯해 약 100여명이 참석해 세종학당의 출발을 함께 축하했다.

특히 세종학당 수강 신청은 접수 시작 불과 48시간 만에 400여 명이 지원하는 등 현지 사회의 뜨거운 관심을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 필리핀 중북부 지역 주민들의 한국어 학습 수요와 한류 문화에 대한 열기를 보여주는 상징적인 사례다.

또한 개소식 후에는 공개수업으로 ‘자개 그립톡 만들기’ 체험 프로그램이 마련되어 참석자들이 한국 전통 공예 기법을 직접 체험하며 한국 문화를 보다 가까이에서 이해할 수 있는 시간을 가졌다. 현지 참가자들은 독창적인 작품을 완성하며 큰 호응을 보냈다.

무뇨스 세종학당은 오는 2025년 9월부터 시범 운영에 들어가며, 2026년부터 정규 과정을 본격 운영할 예정이다. 교육 과정은 한국어 초급 과정과 한국문화 강좌로 구성되어, 양국 간 상호 이해 증진과 인적·문화적 교류 확대의 거점 역할을 수행하게 된다.

이병운 총장은 축사에서 “무뇨스 세종학당 개소를 계기로 센트럴루존주립대학교와 협력 범위를 더욱 확장하고, 양교가 농업 중심 대학으로서 축산·농업기술 등 강점 분야에서 실질적인 협력을 이어가길 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 국립순천대학교는 국제적 협력 증진을 위해 더욱 노력하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-woon) announced that the opening ceremony of the “Mu?oz King Sejong Institute” was held on August 27 at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Mu?oz, Philippines.

The new institute, established through collaboration between SCNU and CLSU, marks a significant milestone in expanding institutionalized Korean language and culture education in the Philippines.

The ceremony was attended by President Lee Byung-woon of SCNU, President Evaristo Abella of CLSU, Consul General Sang Seung-man of the Korean Embassy in the Philippines, Mu?oz Mayor Baby Armi Alvarez, and about 100 guests who celebrated the launch together.

The response from the local community was remarkable. Within just 48 hours of opening registration, more than 400 students applied for courses, underscoring strong demand for Korean language learning and the influence of Korean culture in the region.

Following the ceremony, an open class featured a hands-on workshop titled “Making Mother-of-Pearl Grip Toks,” where participants experienced traditional Korean crafts and created unique pieces, receiving enthusiastic feedback.

The Mu?oz King Sejong Institute will begin pilot operations in September 2025 and launch full regular courses in 2026. Programs will include beginner-level Korean language and Korean culture classes, serving as a hub for strengthening mutual understanding and expanding academic and cultural exchange between the two countries.

In his congratulatory remarks, President Lee Byung-woon stated, “With the opening of the Mu?oz King Sejong Institute, we look forward to expanding cooperation with CLSU not only in Korean language and culture education but also in our shared strengths in agriculture and livestock sciences. SCNU will continue to promote international collaboration and global education initiatives.”
