국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 과학영재교육원은 국립대학육성사업의 일환으로 지난 8월 5일부터 8일까지(총 12시간) 순천시청소년수련관이 운영하는 ‘방과 후 아카데미’참여 초,중학생을 대상으로 ‘창의융합코딩교실 - 여름방학 창의융합캠프’를 운영했다고 밝혔다.

‘방과 후 아카데미’는 방과 후 돌봄이 필요한 초,중학생에게 학교나 가정을 대신하여 각종 체험활동, 학습지원, 급식 상담 등을 제공하며 전인적 성장을 지원하는 프로그램이다.

과학영재교육원은 지역 청소년의 SW역량 강화 및 다양한 문제해결력을 향상시키고자 창의융합코딩교실을 운영하고 있다. 이번 여름방학 창의융합캠프에서는 수학, 과학 원리를 이해하고 AI 프로그램으로 연결하는 활동을 통해 지역 인재 양성에 힘썼다.

이번 프로그램에서는 ▲수국 꽃잎에 숨겨진 비밀 - 산과 염기를 찾아라! , 가상공간 과학 실험실▲ 예술과 수학사이 - 입체도형과 건축물, 가상공간 건축물 설계사 등 과학, 수학을 AI와 접목시켜보는 체험 기회를 제공하였다.

이 체험에 참여한 학생은 “수국이 흙의 PH의 따라 색이 바뀐다는 걸 알게 되었고 리트머스와 비눗물은 파란색이 되고 리트머스와 레몬즙은 핑크색이라는 것을 알았고 만능지시약은 산성과 염기성에 따라 색이 변해 신기했다. 배운 내용을 가상공간인 과학 실험실에서 적용해 보는 것도 신기했다”며 활동에 만족감을 보였다.

과학영재교육원은 “앞으로도 지역 유관기관과 협력해 청소년에게 질 높은 미래 역량 교육을 제공하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 국립순천대 과학영재교육원은 2003년부터 과학기술정보통신부 산하 한국과학창의재단 주관으로 정부 과학기술진흥기금과 복권기금의 지원을 받아 운영되고 있다.

SCNU Gifted Education Center Successfully Concludes “Creative Convergence Coding Camp” in Partnership with Local Institutions

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-woon) announced that its Gifted Education Center successfully operated the Creative Convergence Coding Camp ? Summer Vacation Program from August 5 to 8 (a total of 12 hours) for elementary and middle school students enrolled in the After-School Academy program at Suncheon Youth Training Center.

The After-School Academy is a program designed to support elementary and middle school students who require after-school care. It provides various experiential activities, academic support, meals, and counseling to promote holistic growth.

Through the Creative Convergence Coding Class, the Gifted Education Center aims to strengthen local youth’s software skills and enhance their problem-solving abilities. This summer’s camp emphasized connecting mathematical and scientific principles with AI applications, cultivating future talent in the region.

Students took part in activities such as ▲“The Secret of Hydrangea Petals ? Discovering Acids and Bases” and virtual science labs ▲“Between Art and Mathematics ? Exploring Polyhedra and Architecture” and virtual building design experiences. These programs provided hands-on opportunities to link science and mathematics with AI.

One participant shared, “I learned that hydrangea colors change depending on soil pH. Litmus paper with soap solution turns blue, while with lemon juice it turns pink. I also discovered that universal indicators change color depending on acidity or alkalinity. It was exciting to apply what we learned in the virtual science lab.”

An official from the Gifted Education Center stated, “We will continue to collaborate with local institutions to provide high-quality future competency education for youth.”

Since 2003, SCNU’s Gifted Education Center has been operated under the supervision of the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (KOFAC) with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Science and Technology Promotion Fund, and the Lottery Fund.
