- RISE 연계 교양교육 방안 및 협력체계 논의

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 교육혁신본부 교양교육원(원장 손승남)은 지난 6월 27일 ‘호남권 교양교육협의체 하계 세미나’를 성공적으로 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 하계 세미나는 국립순천대학교 주관, 전국대학교양교육협의회 후원으로 우석대학교 대학 본부 대회의실에서 진행되었다. 세미나에는 호남권 교양교육협의체 소속 대학의 교수·직원 등 약 50여 명이 참여하였으며, 지역혁신중심대학지원체계(RISE)와 교양교육의 연계 방안을 모색하고 호남권 대학 간 교양교육 협력체계를 강화하는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

국립순천대학교 손승남 교양교육원장의 환영사를 시작으로 △지역혁신중심대학지원체계(RISE)에서 지·산·학 협력과 대학 교양교육의 역할과 기능(국립순천대학교 손영진 교수), △교양교육의 질 관리를 위한 교양교과목 인증제(국립군산대학교 김혜경 교수, 교양교육지원센터장) 등 두 개의 주제 발표와 회의가 이어졌다.

손영진 교수는 지·산·학 연계 교양교육 과제에 대한 요구도 분석 결과를 공유하며, 교양교육과정 개선 방향과 각 주체의 역할을 강조했다. 김혜경 센터장은 교양교과목 인증제를 통해 교육 표준화와 질적 향상을 기대할 수 있다며 체계적인 품질 관리 방안을 제시했다.

이어진 협의체 회의에서는 호남권 교양교육협의체의 향후 사업과 ‘호남권 교양교육포럼’ 개최 계획 등을 논의했다. 조법종 우석대학교 교양대학장은 호남권 공동 교양교육과정 개발 방안을 제안하며, 익산 지역의 문화유산을 연계한 교과목 운영 사례를 공유했다.

국립순천대 손승남 교양교육원장은 “급변하는 대학 교육 환경 속에서 RISE와 연계한 교양교육의 역할을 재정립하고, 교양교육의 질 관리 방안을 모색하는 것이 중요하다”라며, “호남권 교양교육협의체는 향후 정기적인 세미나와 포럼을 통해 지역 대학 간 교양교육 협력을 지속 강화하고, 지역사회와 연계한 공동 교육과정 개발에도 적극 나설 예정”이라고 밝혔다.

한편, ‘호남권 교양교육협의체’(前 광주·전남교양교육협의체)는 2021년 지역대학의 교양교육 경쟁력 강화 및 네트워크 활성화를 목표로 발족했으며, 현재 호남권 26개 대학이 참여하고 있다.

Sunchon National University Successfully Hosts 2024 Summer Seminar of the Honam General Education Consortium

? Discussing RISE-linked General Education and Regional Cooperation Strategies

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that its Center for General Education, under the Office of Educational Innovation (Director Son Seung-nam), successfully held the 2024 Summer Seminar of the Honam General Education Consortium on June 27.

The seminar, hosted by Sunchon National University and supported by the Korean Council for University General Education, took place at the main conference hall of Woosuk University. Approximately 50 faculty members and staff from member universities of the Honam consortium participated in the event. The seminar focused on exploring the integration of general education with the Regional Innovation-based University Support System (RISE) and strengthening inter-university collaboration in the Honam region.

Following a welcoming address by Director Son Seung-nam of SCNU, two keynote presentations were delivered: △“The Role and Function of General Education in University?Industry?Community (UIC) Cooperation within the RISE Framework” by Professor Son Young-jin (Sunchon National University) △“A Certification System for General Education Courses to Ensure Quality and Standardization” by Professor Kim Hye-kyung (Center for General Education Support, Kunsan National University)

Professor Son shared findings from a needs assessment on UIC-linked general education and proposed curriculum improvements and role differentiation among stakeholders. Professor Kim introduced a structured certification system for general education courses, emphasizing its potential to improve educational quality and promote standardization.

In the subsequent consortium meeting, participants discussed future collaborative projects, including the launch of the Honam General Education Forum. Dean Cho Beop-jong of Woosuk University’s College of Liberal Arts proposed a joint curriculum development plan and shared case studies of general education courses linked to local cultural heritage in the Iksan region.

Director Son Seung-nam of SCNU remarked, “In today’s rapidly changing educational landscape, it is essential to redefine the role of general education in alignment with RISE and establish systematic quality assurance mechanisms. The Honam General Education Consortium will continue to strengthen regional collaboration through regular seminars and forums, and actively pursue the development of community-linked joint curricula.”

Established in 2021 (formerly the Gwangju?Jeonnam General Education Consortium), the Honam General Education Consortium aims to enhance the competitiveness of general education at regional universities and activate academic networks. Currently, 26 universities across the Honam region are participating.
