- 윤석진 前 KIST 원장 초청, 순천대·광양시 공동 비전 제시

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 20일 광양시청 시민홀에서 광양시와 공동으로 ‘세계 속의 광양, 새로운 지역혁신 모델을 향하여’를 주제로 전문가 초청 특강을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 특강은 급변하는 글로벌 환경 속에서 지역의 지속가능한 발전 전략을 함께 모색하고, 광양·순천권의 자립형 지역혁신 생태계 구축을 위한 비전을 공유하고자 마련됐다. 이날 특강에는 광양시 정인화 시장, 국립순천대학교 문승태 대외협력부총장, 남기창 교학부총장을 비롯해 대학과 지역의 주요 인사들이 참석해, 지역과 대학이 함께 만드는 미래 혁신 전략의 중요성을 재확인했다.

강연은 윤석진 前 한국과학기술연구원(KIST) 원장이 맡아 진행했다. 윤 원장은 ‘불확실성 시대, 지역의 미래’, ‘세계는 지역에서 혁신한다’, ‘광양은 준비되어 있는가?’, ‘자립형 혁신 생태계 전략’, ‘순천대 광양캠퍼스, 지역혁신의 마중물’이라는 다섯 가지 핵심 주제를 중심으로 강연을 이어갔다. 윤석진 원장은 ▲지방소멸 위기 대응을 위한 대학과 지역의 공동 역할 ▲광양만권의 산업인프라와 인재 양성의 연계 ▲지속가능한 지역 주도형 혁신 생태계 구축 방안 등을 제시하며 깊이 있는 통찰을 전했다.

특히 윤석진 원장은 국립순천대학교 광양캠퍼스가 지역혁신의 핵심 플랫폼으로 기능할 수 있도록, 대학의 교육·연구 기능과 광양시의 전략산업을 연계한 상생 모델 구축이 시급하다고 강조했다. 또한, 광양과 순천이 연대하여 지역 기반의 글로벌 혁신 전략을 실현해야 한다는 메시지도 함께 전했다.

국립순천대 글로컬대학사업단을 이끄는 문승태 대외협력부총장은 “지역과 대학이 협력하여 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 자립형 지역혁신 모델을 만들어가는 것이 지금 시대의 과제”라며, “국립순천대는 광양시와 함께 지역이 주도하는 미래 혁신 생태계를 조성해 나가겠다”라고 밝혔다.

Sunchon National University and Gwangyang City Host Expert Lecture on Regional Innovation

- Exploring a new model for autonomous, sustainable regional development in a global context

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that it co-hosted an expert lecture with Gwangyang City on May 20 at the Gwangyang City Hall Citizens’ Hall, under the theme “Gwangyang in the World: Toward a New Model of Regional Innovation.”

The lecture aimed to explore strategies for sustainable regional development in response to rapidly changing global dynamics, and to share a vision for building a self-sustaining regional innovation ecosystem across the Gwangyang?Sunchon area. The event was attended by key local leaders, including Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa, Sunchon National University Vice President for External Affairs Moon Seung-tae, Vice President for Academic Affairs Nam Ki-chang, and other representatives from the university and community.

The keynote speaker was Dr. Yoon Suk-jin, former President of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). Dr. Yoon addressed five core themes in his lecture: “The Future of Regions in an Era of Uncertainty,” “Innovation Begins in Local Communities,” “Is Gwangyang Ready?” “Strategies for Autonomous Innovation Ecosystems,” and “SCNU Gwangyang Campus as a Catalyst for Regional Innovation.” He emphasized the joint role of universities and local communities in addressing population decline, aligning industrial infrastructure in the Gwangyang Bay Area with talent development, and constructing sustainable, region-led innovation systems.

In particular, Dr. Yoon highlighted the need to establish a cooperative model that links the educational and research capacities of Sunchon National University with Gwangyang’s strategic industries. He also stressed the importance of building a global innovation strategy rooted in regional solidarity between Gwangyang and Sunchon.

Moon Seung-tae, Vice President for External Affairs and Head of Sunchon National University’s Glocal University Project, stated, “The key challenge of our time is for universities and local governments to collaborate in developing regionally driven innovation models with global competitiveness. Sunchon National University is committed to working with Gwangyang City to build a future-oriented innovation ecosystem led by the local community.”
