“교수님과 함께하는 진로 탐색으로 대학 생활이 달라졌습니다.”

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)가 재학생들의 학업 적응과 진로 설계를 지원하기 위해, ‘2025학년도 1학기 교수-학생 멘토링’ 프로그램을 본격 운영 중이다. 단순한 상담을 넘어 교수와 학생이 팀을 이뤄 실전형 활동을 함께 수행하며, 참여 학생들의 성장 경험을 끌어올리는 대표적인 비교과 교육모델로 자리 잡고 있다.

‘교수-학생 멘토링’은 국립순천대학교 교육혁신본부에서 2015년부터 꾸준히 운영해 온 동아리형 비교과 프로그램이다. 교수와 학생 간의 밀도 높은 소통을 통해 학습·진로·대학 생활 전반의 어려움을 함께 해결해 나가는 데 초점을 둔다. 특히 학업 성취도가 낮거나 대학 생활 적응에 어려움을 겪는 학생들에게 교원이 직접 손을 내미는 방식으로, 실질적인 조언과 정서적 지지를 결합한 맞춤형 지원이 이뤄진다.

학기 초인 3월부터 6월까지 운영 예정인 2025학년도 1학기 교수-학생 멘토링에는 총 99개 팀, 588명의 학생이 참여하고 있다. 적게는 5명에서 많게는 11명이 속한 각 팀은 전공 자격증 준비, 공모전 참가, 진로 탐색, 전공 심화 학습 등 자율적으로 선정한 다양한 주제를 중심으로 활동 중이다. 활동은 공강 시간을 활용하거나, 평일과 주말을 가리지 않고 이루어진다.

이 중에는 무전공으로 선발한 신입생 88명도 참여하고 있다. 이들은 학기 초부터 학교생활 적응과 전공 기초 이해를 돕는 소그룹 방식의 활동을 통해 안정적인 대학 생활의 첫걸음을 내딛고 있다. 그린스마트팜스쿨 소속 신입생 A씨는 “교수님, 친구들과 한층 더 가까워지며 학업에 대한 자신감이 생겼다”라며, “교수님의 그린스마트팜스쿨의 다양한 전공에 대한 소개가 나의 진로 선택에 큰 도움이 되고 있다.”라고 소감을 밝혔다.

국립순천대학교는 교육혁신본부는 멘토링 프로그램을 통해 교수-학생 간 상호작용을 활성화하고, 학생 중심 교육문화를 확산하는 것을 목표로 삼고 있다. 학기 말에는 참여자들의 우수 사례를 함께 나누는 공유회를 열어, 모두가 성장의 의미를 되새길 수 있는 시간을 마련할 예정이다.

남기창 교학부총장은 “학생들이 자기주도적으로 성장할 수 있도록 교수님들이 학습과 진로, 대학 생활 전반에 걸쳐 든든한 동반자로 함께하고 있다.”라며, “앞으로도 학생 한 사람 한 사람이 자신의 방향을 주체적으로 찾아갈 수 있도록, 도전을 응원하고 공감과 소통이 살아 있는 멘토링 문화를 만들어 가겠다”라고 밝혔다.

Sunchon National University Launches Student-Faculty Mentoring Program to Support Academic Success and Career Development

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) has officially launched its 2025 Spring Semester Student-Faculty Mentoring Program, aimed at supporting students’ academic adjustment and career planning. Going beyond simple counseling, the program pairs professors and students in teams to engage in hands-on activities, establishing itself as a leading extracurricular model that enhances participants’ personal and academic growth.

Operated by the university’s Center for Educational Innovation since 2015, the Student-Faculty Mentoring Program is a club-style initiative that emphasizes close communication between professors and students. It focuses on collaboratively addressing challenges related to learning, career choices, and overall campus life. The program is particularly committed to supporting students with low academic performance or difficulties adapting to college life by providing personalized guidance and emotional support through direct faculty involvement.

Running from March to June, the Spring 2025 semester features 99 teams with a total of 588 student participants. Each team, comprising 5 to 11 members, independently selects topics ranging from preparing for major-related certifications and participating in competitions to exploring career paths and deepening major-specific knowledge. Activities take place during free periods, weekdays, and weekends alike.

Among the participants are 88 first-year students admitted without a declared major. Through small-group activities designed to support their early academic transition and foundational understanding of various fields, these students are taking their first confident steps into university life. One such student from the Green Smart Farm School shared, “I’ve grown more confident in my studies by building closer relationships with professors and peers. The professor’s guidance on the diverse majors within the school has greatly helped me in choosing my career path.”

Through this program, the Center for Educational Innovation at Sunchon National University aims to foster active student-faculty engagement and promote a student-centered educational culture. A closing session at the end of the semester will feature a showcase of exemplary cases, providing a meaningful opportunity to reflect on collective growth.
