- 하북성·산동성 고교생과 학부모 대상 맞춤형 설명회… “K-컬처를 넘어, K-에듀로”

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)가 중국 현지 고등학교를 직접 방문해 유학생 유치와 교류 강화를 위한 복합설명회를 진행하며 글로벌 캠퍼스로의 도약에 박차를 가하고 있다.

국립순천대 국제교류교육본부는 지난달 13일부터 16일까지 중국 하북성 한단시와 형태시 위현에서, 이달 1일부터 4일까지는 산동성 위해시에서 현지 고교생과 학부모, 교사들을 대상으로 순천대 유학설명회를 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 설명회는 기존 협력교인 위현제1·2고, 경의외국어학교뿐만 아니라, 대명현제1고, 깡위안고, 하이청상업학교 등 신규 협력 기관 발굴도 병행하여 진행됐다.

현지 설명회에서는 글로컬대학30 선정 이후 변화된 학사 구조와 입시 제도에 더해, ▲장학제도 ▲기숙사·생활환경 ▲졸업 후 진로 등 유학생들이 실제로 궁금해하는 요소에 집중해 맞춤형 정보를 제공했다. 현장에서는 학생과 학부모의 질의응답도 활발하게 이뤄지며 한국 유학에 대한 높은 관심을 확인할 수 있었다.

설명회를 진행한 국제교류교육본부 관계자는 “한국어학과가 개설된 고교의 경우 학생들의 우수한 한국어 구사 능력과 한국 문화에 대한 깊은 이해가 인상적이었다.”라며, “K-컬처에 대한 관심이 자연스럽게 K-에듀로 확장되며, 최근 순천대 진학을 희망하는 학생과 협력 의사를 밝히는 기관이 꾸준히 증가하고 있다.”고 전했다.

강신원 국제교류교육본부장은 “중국은 오랜 기간 교육 협력을 이어온 핵심 파트너 국가로, 이번 방문은 단기적인 유학 상담을 넘어 장기적인 신뢰 형성과 교육협력 기반을 더욱 확장하는 계기가 되었다”라며, “앞으로도 현지 고교생들의 잠재력을 적극적으로 발굴하고, 한·중 간 교육 동반자 관계를 공고히 해나가겠다”라고 밝혔다.

한편, 국립순천대학교는 외국인 유학생의 안정적인 유학 생활을 지원하기 위해 ‘정주지원센터’를 운영하고 있으며, 2030년 완공을 목표로 유학생 전용 정주 시설을 갖춘 ‘글로컬 교육문화복합관’ 건립도 본격적으로 추진 중이다. 이러한 기반을 바탕으로 아시아 주요 국가와의 교류를 확대하고, 외국인 유학생이 지역 사회와 함께 성장할 수 있는 환경을 조성함으로써, 명실상부한 글로벌 캠퍼스로의 도약을 실현해 나가고 있다.

Sunchon National University Strengthens Global Campus Vision Through In-Person Recruitment Events in China

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) is accelerating its efforts to become a global campus by hosting comprehensive information sessions at local high schools in China, aimed at promoting international student recruitment and strengthening educational exchanges.

The university’s Office of International Affairs announced that study abroad briefings were held from March 13 to 16 in Handan and Xingtai (Weixian County), Hebei Province, and from April 1 to 4 in Weihai, Shandong Province. These sessions targeted local high school students, parents, and teachers, and included both long-standing partner institutions-such as Weixian No.1 & No.2 High Schools and Jingyi Foreign Language School-and newly engaged schools, including Daming County No.1 High School, Gangyuan High School, and Haicheng Commercial School.

The sessions focused on providing tailored information regarding recent academic and admissions changes following Sunchon National University’s selection for the Glocal University 30 initiative. Topics of high interest to prospective students included scholarships, dormitory and campus life, and career paths after graduation. The events also featured active Q&A sessions with students and parents, revealing a strong interest in studying in Korea.

A representative from the Office of International Affairs, who conducted the briefings, noted, “At schools with Korean language programs, students demonstrated impressive Korean proficiency and a deep understanding of Korean culture,” adding that, “Interest in K-culture is naturally extending to K-education, and we are seeing a steady increase in students wishing to attend Sunchon National University, as well as institutions expressing interest in future cooperation.”

Director Kang Shin-won of the Office of International Affairs stated, “China has long been a key partner in educational collaboration. This visit went beyond short-term consultation and served as a meaningful step toward building long-term trust and expanding our cooperative foundation,” adding, “We will continue to actively discover the potential of local high school students and strengthen our partnership as an educational bridge between Korea and China.”

Meanwhile, Sunchon National University currently operates a Settlement Support Center to help international students adjust to life in Korea and is pushing forward with plans to construct a ‘Glocal Education and Culture Complex’-a dedicated facility for international students-by 2030. Through these efforts, the university is expanding exchanges with major Asian countries and creating an environment in which international students can thrive alongside the local community, reinforcing its role as a truly global campus.
