- 학회의 뿌리를 품은 순천대, 자원식물 산업화 논의의 장 마련

… 17일~18일 전국 연구자 150여 명 한자리에

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 한국자원식물학회(회장 박선주)와 공동으로, 학회 창립 40주년을 기념하는 2025년 춘계학술대회를 오는 4월 17일(목)부터 18일(금)까지 이틀간 학내 70주년기념관 2층 초석홀에서 개최한다고 밝혔다.

‘한반도 식물자원의 이용과 전망’을 주제로 열리는 이번 학술대회에서는 지난 40년간의 자원식물 연구 성과를 되돌아보고, 향후 활용 및 산업화 전략과 지역사회와의 연계 방안을 모색할 예정이다. 학술대회에는 전국 각지에서 150여 명의 관련 연구자가 참석하며, 총 90여 편의 연구 발표가 진행된다.

국립순천대에서 열리는 이번 학술대회는 1985년 3월 당시 순천대학교 초대 학장 이상래 박사의 주도로 자원식물학회가 창립된 이후 40년 만에 그 뿌리로 돌아오는 뜻깊은 자리이기도 하다.

자원식물 연구의 학술적 기반을 다져온 순천대는 최근 글로컬대학으로 선정되며 기능성 자원식물의 소재 발굴과 산업화, 지역 산업과의 협력 모델 개발에 주력하고 있다. 이번 학술대회를 통해 미래 산업화 전략과 지역 연계 방안을 함께 모색하는 논의의 장이 마련될 것으로 기대된다.

학술대회 개최와 관련해 학술대회공동조직위원장인 농생명과학과 배창휴 교수는 “창립 40주년을 맞아 학회의 발원지인 국립순천대에서 열리는 이번 학술대회는 자원식물학의 지난 발자취를 되새기고, 미래 40년을 준비하는 소중한 출발점이 될 것”이라고 말했다.

한편, 한국자원식물학회는 2008년에는 세계지식재산권기구(WIPO)의 한국 전통지식 PCT 최소 문헌으로 선정되었으며, 2009년에는 KCI 등재 학술지로 지정되는 등 학술적 공신력을 인정받고 있다. 현재는 575명의 일반회원과 16개 기관회원이 활발히 활동하고 있다.

Sunchon National University to Co-host the 2025 Spring Conference with the Korean Society of Resource Plants in Celebration of Its 40th Anniversary

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) announced that it will co-host the 2025 Spring Conference of the Korean Society of Resource Plants (President Park Sun-joo) to commemorate the Society’s 40th anniversary. The two-day event will be held from April 17 (Thursday) to 18 (Friday) at the Choseok Hall on the second floor of the university's 70th Anniversary Hall.

Under the theme "Utilization and Prospects of Plant Resources on the Korean Peninsula," the conference will review the academic progress made over the past four decades and explore future strategies for the utilization and industrialization of plant resources, along with pathways for regional collaboration. More than 150 researchers from across the country are expected to participate, with around 90 research papers scheduled for presentation.

The event holds special meaning, as it returns to the birthplace of the Society?Sunchon National University?where it was founded in March 1985 by the university’s first president, Dr. Sang-Rae Lee.

As an institution that has laid the academic foundation for resource plant research, Sunchon National University was recently designated as a Glocal University. The university is currently focusing on discovering functional plant materials, promoting their industrial application, and developing collaborative models with local industries. The upcoming conference is expected to serve as a key venue for exploring future industrial strategies and strengthening regional linkages.

Regarding the significance of the event, Professor Bae Chang-hyu, co-chair of the conference and faculty member of the Department of Bio-Plant Science, remarked, “This conference, marking the 40th anniversary and returning to the Society’s birthplace, Sunchon National University, will not only reflect on the academic legacy of the past but also serve as a valuable starting point for preparing the next 40 years of progress in resource plant research.”

Meanwhile, the Korean Society of Resource Plants was recognized in 2008 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as a minimum documentation source for Korean traditional knowledge under the PCT framework and was selected in 2009 as a Korea Citation Index (KCI)-registered journal. The Society currently has 575 individual members and 16 institutional members actively contributing to its work.
