- 세종학당 공동 운영 및 학술 교류 등 MOU 체결 -

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)가 필리핀 센트럴루존주립대학과 세종학당 공동 운영, 학생 교류 및 공동연구를 위한 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

지난 13일 열린 협정식에는 국립순천대 남기창 교학부총장, 서강석 동물자원과학과 교수, 김지현 국제한국어교육학과 조교수 등이 참석했으며, 센트럴루존주립대학에서는 사무국부총장, 교학부총장, 관련 학장, 국제교류본부장 등 주요 관계자가 함께했다.

 남기창 교학부총장 일행은 필리핀을 방문해 세종학당 지정 신청을 위한 현지 실사 및 사전 협의를 진행했으며, 공동연구와 학술교류를 위한 업무협정서를 공식 체결했다. 이를 통해 국립순천대는 필리핀 현지 젊은 인재들에게 한국어와 한국 문화를 접할 수 있는 다양한 프로그램을 제공할 계획이다.

또한, 글로컬대학30 사업의 해외 대학 연계 기반 및 글로벌 경쟁력 강화를 위해 센트럴루존주립대학과 협력하는 △PhillMech(필리핀농무부 산하 스마트농업연구소) △Philippine Rice Research Institute(필리핀농무부 산하 쌀연구소) △Philippine Carabao Center(필리핀농무부 산하 카라바오센터) △Freshwater Aquaculture Center(수자원 연구소) 등을 방문해 공동연구 및 학술교류 활성화를 약속했다.

센트럴루존주립대학은 1907년 설립된 종합대학으로, 농업대학을 시작으로 현재 의과대학을 포함한 9개 단과대학을 보유하고 있다. 특히 농업 분야의 인재 양성에 앞장서 온 명문대학으로, 국립순천대와는 2022년에 양 대학 간 협정을 체결한 이후 지속적으로 교류를 이어오고 있다.

이번 협정에 따라 국립순천대는 ▲세종학당 지정 신청 및 공동 운영 ▲언어교육 강화를 통한 학부생 및 대학원생 협력 양성 ▲학술자료 공유를 통한 공동연구 ▲학점교류 프로그램 등 다양한 분야에서 적극 협력할 계획이다.

국립순천대 남기창 교학부총장은 “한국어와 한국문화에 대한 필리핀 현지의 관심과 수요에 대응하기 위해 문화체육관광부 산하 세종학당재단이 지원하는 세종학당 지정 신청을 준비하고 있으며, 양 대학 간 협력을 제도화하고 협력의 범위와 내용을 고도화하고자 공식 업무협정서를 체결하게 되었다.”라며, “이번 협약은 한국어교육을 넘어 국립순천대 3대 특화 분야 중 하나인 그린스마트팜 분야의 교육 및 연구 경쟁력을 확보하는 데 중요한 마중물이 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

Sunchon National University Signs MOU with Central Luzon State University in the Philippines to Establish Global Network
- Agreement includes joint operation of King Sejong Institute and academic exchange

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in the Philippines for the joint operation of a King Sejong Institute, as well as student exchange and joint research initiatives.

The signing ceremony, held on the 13th, was attended by Sunchon National University Vice President for Academic Affairs Nam Ki-chang, Professor Seo Kang-seok of the Department of Animal Science, and Assistant Professor Kim Ji-hyun of the Department of Korean Language Education for International Students. Representing CLSU were the Vice President for Administration, Vice President for Academic Affairs, deans of relevant colleges, and the Director of the International Relations Office.

During their visit to the Philippines, Vice President Nam and his team conducted an on-site inspection and preliminary consultations for the King Sejong Institute application. They formally signed the agreement for joint research and academic cooperation, aiming to offer various Korean language and cultural programs to young talent in the Philippines.

In addition, to strengthen global partnerships under the Glocal University 30 Project, the delegation visited several research institutes affiliated with CLSU, including: △ Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) △ Philippine Rice Research Institute △ Philippine Carabao Center △ Freshwater Aquaculture Center. These visits laid the groundwork for future research and academic exchange.

Founded in 1907, CLSU is a prestigious comprehensive university with nine colleges, including its founding college of agriculture and a college of medicine. Renowned for nurturing talent in the field of agriculture, CLSU has maintained an active exchange relationship with Sunchon National University since their initial agreement in 2022.

Through this MOU, the two universities have agreed to: ▲ jointly apply for and operate a King Sejong Institute ▲ strengthen undergraduate and graduate-level collaboration through language education ▲ conduct joint research by sharing academic resources ▲ operate student exchange and credit transfer programs.

Vice President Nam Ki-chang stated, “In response to growing interest in Korean language and culture in the Philippines, we are preparing to apply for designation as a King Sejong Institute supported by the King Sejong Institute Foundation under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This MOU institutionalizes the cooperation between our universities and deepens the scope and content of our collaboration.” 

He added, “This agreement is not only a step forward in Korean language education, but also a key opportunity to enhance our university’s education and research capabilities in one of our three strategic focus areas: Green Smart Farming.”
