- 2차연도 담양군에 이어 3차연도에는 함양군 및 거창군으로 탐방 나서

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 인문사회 디지털 융합인재양성사업단(단장 조래철)은 지난 10월 31일부터 11월 1일까지 1박 2일 간 지역문화의 가치를 재조명하기 위해 ‘2025 지역문화콘텐츠 정원탐방’을 개최했다. 정원탐방에는 국립순천대 교수 4명, 재학생 5명, 일반 시민 10여 명 등 20여 명의 참가자들이 고루 참여하였으며, 국립경상대학교 조경학과 임의제 교수가 동행해 1박 2일 동안 정원문화에 대한 현장해설과 특강을 진행하며 참가자들의 이해와 흥미를 높였다.

이번 정원탐방은 경상남도 함양군과 거창군 일대의 대표적인 전통정원과 누정, 서원 등을 중심으로 진행되었다. 탐방단들이 지역 고유의 문화자원을 직접 탐방하고 이를 디지털 콘텐츠로 재해석하는 융합형 인문사회 교육의 일환으로 마련되었다. 탐방단은 경상남도 함양군과 거창군 정원문화권을 중심으로 지역의 문화유산, 전통정원, 서원과 누정 등의 역사적 맥락을 조사하고, 현장 기록과 인터뷰를 통해 지역문화콘텐츠화의 가능성을 모색했다.

탐방단은 첫날 경상남도 함양군의 ▲개평마을(일두고택) ▲심원정 ▲화림동 트래킹(거연정 군자정 동호정 농월정) 을 둘러보며 조선시대 선비정신이 깃든 정자 건축과 자연과의 조화로운 공간미를 체험했다. 이를 통해 한국 전통정원의 미학적 가치와 그 현대적 활용 가능성을 탐구했다.

다음 날에는 거창 지역의 ▲수승대 ▲갈계숲(가선정 도계정 병암정)을 탐방하며 조선시대 학자들이 경영한 구연서원, 요수정, 관수루 등 전통 정원의 공간구성을 살피고, 거북 형상의 바위와 각종 바위글씨 등 원형경관 요소를 직접 확인했다. 탐방단은 디지털 기기를 활용해 현장을 기록하며 지역문화콘텐츠로의 활용 가능성을 살폈다. 이번 탐방을 통해 학생들은 자연과 인문이 어우러진 전통 경관의 가치를 생생히 체험했다.

프로그램 참여 지역민은 “글로만 배우던 것을 직접 걷고 눈으로 보고 전문분야 교수님의 깊이 있는 설명까지 들을 수 있어서 매우 만족도가 높은 프로그램이었다”며 이번 정원 탐방 프로그램은 시대에 부합한 신선하고 유익한 콘텐츠여서 참여자로서 자부심과 긍정심을 가질 수 있었다“고 소감을 전했다.

조래철 사업단장은 “이번 탐방은 학생들이 지역문화의 현장에서 직접 배우고 느끼며, 인문학적 소양과 디지털 기술을 접목해 새로운 콘텐츠로 발전시킬 수 있는 계기가 되었다”며 “앞으로도 지역의 문화유산을 교육과 연구, 콘텐츠 창작으로 연결하는 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 인문사회 디지털 융합인재양성사업단은 2023년부터 교육부와 한국연구재단의 지원을 받아 운영 중인 디지털 인재 양성 컨소시엄으로, 국립순천대학교를 비롯해 고려대학교(주관교), 숙명여자대학교, 영남대학교, 충남대학교가 참여하고 있다.

SCNU Humanities and Social Sciences Digital Convergence Talent Development Project Hosts “2025 Regional Cultural Content Garden Exploration”

- Following Damyang in Year 2, the program expands to Hamyang and Geochang in Year 3

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-Woon) announced that its Humanities and Social Sciences Digital Convergence Talent Development Project (HUSS, Director Cho Rae-Cheol) successfully held the “2025 Regional Cultural Content Garden Exploration” from October 31 to November 1, a two-day field program designed to rediscover the value of regional culture.

The exploration brought together about 20 participants, including four SCNU professors, five students, and ten local citizens. Professor Im Ui-Je from the Department of Landscape Architecture at Gyeongsang National University joined the trip, providing on-site lectures and commentary throughout the two days, deepening participants’ understanding of traditional Korean garden culture.

This year’s program focused on Hamyang and Geochang, two counties in Gyeongsangnam-do known for their traditional gardens, pavilions, and Confucian academies. Participants examined these cultural sites while exploring ways to reinterpret them as digital humanities content, combining cultural heritage studies with digital documentation. Through field observations and interviews, the team investigated the historical and cultural context of local gardens and sought opportunities for developing new regional cultural content.

On the first day, the group visited Gaepyeong Village (Il-Du Historic House) and Simwonjeong Pavilion, followed by a trek through Hwarim-dong Valley, where they explored Geoyeonjeong, Gun-Jajeong, Donghojeong, and Nongwoljeong?pavilions embodying the aesthetic and philosophical ideals of Joseon-era scholars. Participants reflected on the harmony between nature and architecture and examined the aesthetic and contemporary value of traditional Korean gardens.

On the second day, the group explored Suseungdae and Galgyesup Forest (Gaseonjeong, Dogyejeong, Byeongamjeong) in Geochang. They studied the spatial layouts of Gunyeon Seowon, Yosujeong, and Gwansuru, and observed natural landscape elements such as turtle-shaped rock formations and stone inscriptions. Using digital tools, participants recorded field data to evaluate its potential for regional content development.

One local participant shared, “It was rewarding to see and experience firsthand what I had only read about. The professors’ deep explanations made the program both educational and inspiring. I felt proud to take part in such a fresh and meaningful cultural experience.”

Director Cho Rae-Cheol stated, “This exploration allowed students to experience regional culture directly and connect their humanities insight with digital skills to create new forms of content. SCNU will continue to expand programs that link cultural heritage with education, research, and creative content development.”

The HUSS Digital Convergence Project has been supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea since 2023. It operates as a national consortium for digital talent development, jointly participated by Korea University (lead institution), Sookmyung Women’s University, Yeungnam University, Chungnam National University, and Sunchon National University.
