국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 우주항공·첨단소재 스쿨 신입생들의 대학생활 적응과 전공 탐색을 지원하기 위해 9월 4일부터 5일까지 1박 2일간 ‘새내기 대학생활 적응 프로그램 캠프’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

국립순천대는 교육부 글로컬대학30 사업에 선정되면서 ▲우주항공·첨단소재 ▲애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 ▲그린스마트팜을 3대 특화 분야로 육성하고 있다. 2025학년도부터 신입생은 무전공으로 입학해 사회·산업 수요 변화에 따라 자유롭게 전공을 선택할 수 있는 교육체계를 적용받는다. 이번 캠프는 이 같은 새로운 학사 구조에 맞춰 신입생이 조기부터 전공을 탐색하고 공동체적 유대감을 형성하도록 기획됐다.

행사에는 우주항공·첨단소재 스쿨 신입생과 재학생, 교수·조교 등 약 300명이 참가했다. 프로그램은 ▲아이스브레이킹 ▲전공 탐색 미션과 조별 발표 ▲고흥 일대 현장 견학 등으로 구성되었으며, 참가 학생들은 동기·선배·교수와의 네트워킹을 통해 전공 및 진로 선택에 필요한 다양한 조언을 얻고 학교생활 전반에 대한 이해를 넓혔다. 특히 조별 전공 탐색 발표와 고흥 일대 현장 견학은 학생들이 실제 산업 환경을 체험하며 진로 시야를 확장하는 계기가 됐다.

캠프 참여 신입생은 “새로운 친구들을 만나고 교수님과 직접 상담하면서 전공 선택에 큰 도움을 받았다”며 만족감을 전했다. 신창선 우주항공·첨단소재 스쿨 학장은 “공학 분야의 미래를 이끌어갈 핵심 인재들이 첫걸음을 내딛는 뜻깊은 출발점이었다”며 “앞으로도 학생 중심의 프로그램을 통해 성장을 지속 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 국립순천대학교는 글로컬대학30을 통해 학과 간 장벽을 허물고 현장 중심의 학습을 강화하는 교육혁신을 실천하며, 지역과 산업 현장이 요구하는 창의적 인재 양성에 한층 탄력을 더할 것으로 기대된다.

SCNU Aerospace & Advanced Materials School Holds Freshman Adaptation Camp

- Two-day program at Goheung Sun Valley Resort combines community building with major exploration

- Supports Glocal University 30 initiative to help students freely design their majors and careers

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-woon) announced that its Aerospace & Advanced Materials School successfully held a two-day Freshman University Life Adaptation Camp from September 4 to 5 at Goheung Sun Valley Resort. The camp was designed to help first-year students adjust to university life while exploring potential majors and career paths.

SCNU has been selected for Korea’s Ministry of Education Glocal University 30 initiative, through which it is nurturing three specialized fields: Aerospace & Advanced Materials, Animation & Cultural Content, and Green Smart Farm. Beginning with the 2025 academic year, all new students will be admitted without a declared major and will have the flexibility to choose their field of study according to evolving social and industrial demands. This camp was organized to align with the new academic structure, enabling freshmen to explore majors early and build a strong sense of community.

Approximately 300 participants?including freshmen, senior students, professors, and teaching assistants?joined the program. Activities included ice-breaking sessions, team-based major exploration missions and presentations, and field visits around Goheung. Through networking with peers, senior students, and faculty, participants received valuable advice on major and career selection while gaining a deeper understanding of university life. In particular, team presentations and field visits provided firsthand exposure to industrial environments, broadening students’ career perspectives.

One participating freshman commented, “Meeting new friends and consulting directly with professors was a great help in selecting my major.” Shin Chang-sun, Dean of the Aerospace & Advanced Materials School, added, “This camp marked a meaningful starting point for future leaders in engineering. We will continue to support student growth with learner-centered programs.”

SCNU expects that the Glocal University 30 initiative will further break down barriers between departments and strengthen field-oriented learning, accelerating the cultivation of creative talent demanded by both the region and the wider industrial sector.
