-  “초등학생 대상 AI · SW 체험교육, 진로탐색에 큰 도움”

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) SW중심대학사업단은 여수 한려초등학교와 ‘디지털 인재 양성을 위한 SW교육 시범학교’ 운영 협약을 체결하고, 지난 3월부터 한 학기 동안 진행해온 초등학교 4학년 대상 SW 교육 프로그램의 성과발표회를 지난 7월 18일 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 SW 교육 시범학교 운영은 국립순천대, 전라남도교육청, 한전KDN 간 협약(SW강사양성과정 운영, 2024.4.)에 따라 추진된 사업으로, SW 강사양성과정 이수 수료생을 초등학교 자유학기제의 강사로 활용한 것이 특징이다. 학생들이 인공지능(AI)과 소프트웨어(SW)를 체험하며 기본 소양을 쌓고, 흥미 기반 진로 탐색이 가능하도록 설계된 맞춤형 체험 중심 교육으로 구성됐다. 교육은 매주 금요일 2시간씩 총 14회에 걸쳐 운영되었으며, 교육내용은 ▲내 맘대로 날려보는 드론 ▲레고 조립을 통한 블록코딩 교육 ▲뚜루뚜루 센서를 활용한 코딩 등 다양한 주제를 다뤘다.

성과발표회를 주관한 한려초등학교 김경민 교장은 “학생들이 놀이처럼 즐기며 체계적으로 AI와 SW의 원리를 배울 수 있는 유익한 시간이었다”며, “학생들의 적극적인 참여와 눈에 띄는 성장에 깊은 인상을 받았다”고 소감을 전했다.

SW중심대학사업단 심춘보 단장은 “이번 시범학교 운영을 통해 지역 초·중·고교에서 AI·SW 교육 접근성을 높이고, 실효성 있는 커리큘럼을 개발하는 데 의미 있는 성과를 거뒀다”며, “특히 강사로 참여한 국립순천대 학부생· 대학원생들에게도 교육 현장의 실전 경험을 제공해 미래 SW 교육 전문가로 성장할 수 있는 소중한 기회가 되었다”고 말했다.

한편, 국립순천대학교 SW중심대학사업은 과학기술정보통신부와 정보통신기획평가원(IITP)의 지원을 받아 전라남도, 순천시·광양시·고흥군이 함께 지역 내 SW 가치 확산을 위한 다양한 교육 프로그램을 운영하고 있다.

SCNU Hosts SW Education Demonstration School Showcase for Elementary Students

- “AI and software experience programs help students explore future career paths” 

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-woon) successfully held a performance showcase for its SW Education Demonstration School program on July 18, following a semester-long software education initiative for fourth-grade students at Hallyeo Elementary School in Yeosu. The program was launched through a partnership agreement between SCNU and the school to foster future digital talent.

The initiative was carried out as part of a broader collaboration established in April 2024 among SCNU, the Jeollanam-do Office of Education, and KEPCO KDN. The program uniquely employed SCNU graduates of the university’s SW Instructor Training Course as teachers for elementary-level “free semester” sessions. Designed as a hands-on, experience-based curriculum, the classes aimed to equip students with basic AI and software knowledge while helping them explore related career interests in an engaging and accessible way.

The course ran for 14 sessions, held every Friday for two hours. Students participated in various activities, including drone piloting, LEGO-based block coding, and sensor-based coding using the DduruDduru platform.

Kim Kyung-min, principal of Hallyeo Elementary School, who oversaw the program, remarked, “Students had a great time learning the principles of AI and software through fun, structured activities. Their enthusiasm and noticeable growth left a strong impression on us.”

Shim Chun-bo, Director of the SCNU SW-Centered University Project Group, stated, “This program significantly improved access to AI and SW education across local elementary, middle, and high schools. It also helped us develop a meaningful and effective curriculum. Importantly, it provided valuable on-site teaching experience for SCNU’s undergraduate and graduate students, supporting their development into future SW education professionals.”

The SCNU SW-Centered University Project is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP). In partnership with Jeollanam-do Province and the cities of Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Goheung County, the project delivers a wide range of educational programs to spread the value of software throughout the region.
