- 학생·교직원 서포터즈와 함께 체험 행사 운영… 차별 없는 캠퍼스 문화 조성에 앞장

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운) 인권센터는 지난 21일 ‘세계 인종차별 철폐의 날’을 맞아 학생회관 앞에서 재학생과 외국인 유학생, 교직원, 지역민을 대상으로 인권 의식 강화 캠페인을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 캠페인은 인권센터와 학생·교직원으로 구성된 제2기 ‘인권신장 및 성평등 지킴이 서포터즈’가 공동 주최하였으며, 인종차별에 대한 경각심을 환기하고 인격권·자유권·평등권 등 기본권에 대한 인식을 확산하기 위한 다양한 활동을 마련하였다.

참여자들이 인종차별 문제에 대해 다양한 관점에서 생각하고 서로의 문화를 존중하는 분위기를 조성할 수 있도록 ▲인종차별 경험 공유 보드 ▲인종 관련 O/X 퀴즈 ▲몰가드 앱 사용 안내 ▲‘인권’ 2행시 짓기 ▲‘선넘네 vs 선넘지 않네’ 토론 ▲봄맞이 참여형 이벤트 ‘누가 꽃이게?’ 등 체험 중심의 프로그램이 운영되었다.

특히 ‘인종차별 경험 공유 보드’에는 외국인 유학생이 직접 겪었거나 재학생이 목격한 차별 사례가 자발적으로 기록되며 공감대를 형성했다. ‘인종 관련 O/X 퀴즈’는 인종에 관한 올바른 정보를 전달했으며, ‘선넘네 vs 선넘지 않네’ 코너에서는 일상 속 무심코 사용하는 차별적 표현에 대한 인식 전환을 유도해 큰 호응을 얻었다.

캠페인에 참여한 인권 서포터즈 임한별 학생(원예학과 4학년)은 “인종차별 문제에 대해 깊이 생각하고 다양한 관점을 접할 수 있었다”라며, “특히 친구들과의 토론을 통해 내가 무심코 사용했던 표현이 누군가에게 상처가 될 수 있다는 점을 깨닫게 된 것이 가장 인상 깊었다”라고 소감을 전했다.

국립순천대 정동보 인권센터장은 “이번 캠페인은 단순한 정보 전달을 넘어, 체험과 경험 공유를 통해 인권에 대한 가치관을 스스로 정립할 수 있도록 기획됐다”라며, “유학생 증가에 발맞춰 다문화·다인종 사회에 대한 이해를 높이고, 차별 없는 포용적 캠퍼스 문화를 조성하기 위해 앞으로도 다양한 교육과 캠페인을 지속적으로 추진할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

한편,  ‘세계 인종차별 철폐의 날’은 1960년 3월 21일 남아프리카공화국 샤프빌에서 인종분리정책에 반대하는 평화 시위 중 경찰의 발포로 희생된 69명을 기리기 위해, UN이 1965년 공식 지정한 날이다.

Sunchon National University Holds Human Rights Campaign to Mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

On March 21, Sunchon National University's Human Rights Center hosted an on-campus campaign to raise awareness of human rights in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The event took place in front of the student union building and was open to students, faculty, international students, and local residents.

Organized by the university’s Human Rights Center and its second cohort of student-faculty human rights and gender equality supporters, the campaign aimed to raise awareness of racial discrimination and promote respect for basic human rights such as dignity, liberty, and equality.

The event featured interactive activities such as a message board for sharing experiences of racial discrimination, a racial knowledge O/X quiz, human rights-themed poetry writing, discussion corners, and spring-themed games. These programs encouraged participants to reflect on the impact of everyday discriminatory language and to better understand diverse cultural perspectives.

A student supporter who participated in the event shared that it was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on ex-pressions that may unintentionally hurt others, and to deepen understanding of inclusion.

The university’s Human Rights Center Director, Jung Dong-bo, stated that the event was designed to go beyond information delivery by offering participatory programs that foster personal reflection. He emphasized the center's commitment to building an inclusive campus culture through ongoing education and awareness efforts.
