SCNU Hosts Talk Concert with Former Constitutional Court Justice Moon Hyung-Bae: “The Constitution Speaks to Youth”
- Fostering civic education where young people and the local community grow together
Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-Woon) announced on the 27th that it successfully hosted a special lecture and talk concert titled “The Constitution Speaks to Youth.”
The event took place at 2 p.m. on October 27 in Wooseok Hall at SCNU’s 70th Anniversary Building, featuring former Constitutional Court Justice Moon Hyung-Bae as the keynote speaker.
During his talk, Justice Moon emphasized, “The Constitution is not a distant set of laws?it is a promise that upholds the order of our daily lives and guarantees human dignity. When young people reflect on and practice the values of justice and human rights as active members of society, the future of Korea will grow stronger.”
The lecture aimed to deepen understanding of the Constitution and to inspire young people to pursue justice, human rights, and civic responsibility. It also encouraged active community participation and dialogue between generations on the meaning of fairness and democracy.
Following the main talk, an open discussion and Q&A session took place with students and local citizens in attendance. Participants engaged in thoughtful dialogue on topics such as ethical living, criminal justice, and generational values. Citizens raised questions about “how to live without greed” and “the appropriate punishment for violent crimes,” while students asked about “the relevance of honesty and integrity in an era of political-judicial collusion” and “which foreign constitutional principles Korea might adopt or strengthen if the Constitution were to be amended.”
This event served as a meaningful platform for sharing the spirit of the Constitution with the younger generation, fostering civic empathy, and promoting a vision of a just and sustainable society. SCNU plans to continue offering public lectures and civic education programs that cultivate social responsibility and human rights awareness in collaboration with the local community.
