지역기반 문화콘텐츠 인재 양성 기반 마련

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 지난 6월부터 10월까지 5개월간 진행된 「2025 어린이만화웹툰체험교실」을 성공적으로 마무리했다고 31일 밝혔다.

이 프로그램은 국립순천대학교 글로컬대학30 애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 특화분야(단장 김소라·김동조) 평생교육사업과 전라남도순천교육지원청의 「2025 순천교육발전특구 문화콘텐츠창작 클래스」가 연계해 추진한 지역협력형 창의교육 사업이다.

올해 체험교실은 순천 지역 유치원 및 초등학교 20개교, 총 126개 학급, 2,740명의 어린이를 대상으로 운영되었으며, 전문강사 10명과 보조강사 23명이 함께하며 총 1,008시간의 수업이 진행됐다.

교육 과정은 △1일차 ‘만화랑 친구되기’, △2일차 ‘다양한 얼굴표현 그리기’, △3일차 ‘나만의 캐릭터 만들기’, △4일차 ‘나만의 캐릭터 굿즈(뱃지) 제작 및 수료식’으로 구성되어, 캐릭터를 구상하고 완성하는 과정을 통해 상상력과 표현력을 키우는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 순천캠퍼스가 주관한 이번 프로그램은 교육 콘텐츠 기획부터 현장 운영까지 전 과정을 대학과 지역 교육기관, 전문 강사진이 협력하여 추진했다. 현장 중심의 체험형 수업으로 참여 학생과 교사, 학부모 모두에게 긍정적인 평가를 받았다.

이에 앞서 지난 27일 순천캠퍼스에서는 전문강사 해단식이 열렸다. 행사에는 △애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 순천캠퍼스 단장 김동조(영상디자인학전공), 천현진 학술연구교수, 문성규 실무원, △전라남도순천교육지원청 공민숙 장학사, △전문강사 김승린 외 10명이 참석해 올 한 해의 성과를 공유하고 내년도 운영 방향을 논의했다.

김동조 단장은 “이번 체험교실은 지역의 아이들에게 창작의 즐거움과 표현의 기회를 제공하고, 강사들에게는 전문 역량을 발휘할 수 있는 현장이 되었다”며 “내년에는 학년별 난이도 조정과 교재·교구 개선을 통해 한 단계 발전된 애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 특화 교육 모델로 이어가겠다”고 밝혔다.

이어 순천교육지원청 공민숙 장학사는 “순천대와 교육지원청이 함께 추진한 이번 프로그램은 지역 교육 인프라를 공유하고, 대학과 학교가 협력해 아이들의 창의 역량을 키운 좋은 사례”라며 “앞으로도 대학의 전문 자원과 학교 교육이 연계되는 지역 기반 진로·창의교육 모델을 지속 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

전문 강사로 참여한 조은영 웹툰 작가는 “학생들이 만화·웹툰에 흥미를 가지고 적극적으로 참여해 매우 보람된 시간이었다”며 “앞으로 더 다양한 형태의 프로그램으로 발전하길 바란다”고 소감을 전했다.

한편, 국립순천대와 순천교육지원청은 지난 4월 ‘지역 인재 양성을 위한 교육협력 업무협약(MOU)’을 체결하고, 인적·물적 인프라 공유 및 진로교육 환경 조성을 위한 협력체계를 본격화했다.

양 기관은 △정주형 지역 인재 양성을 위한 진로교육 환경 구축 △전공 연계 진로체험 지원 △대학 캠퍼스 탐방 프로그램 운영 △학과 교수·학생 멘토링 △애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 스쿨 연계 교육 프로그램 운영 등을 공동으로 추진 중이다.

국립순천대는 앞으로도 글로컬대학30 사업을 중심으로 지역 주력산업인 애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 분야를 특화 육성하고, 애니메이션·문화콘텐츠 순천캠퍼스를 기반으로 평생교육·산학협력·창작인재 양성 생태계를 구축해 지역사회와 함께 성장하는 교육 모델을 확산할 계획이다.

SCNU Concludes the 2025 Children’s Cartoon and Webtoon Experience Class

- 2,740 children from 20 local schools participated, fostering creative talent in the regional cultural content sector

Sunchon National University (SCNU, President Lee Byung-woon) announced on October 31 that it successfully completed the “2025 Children’s Cartoon and Webtoon Experience Class,” which ran for five months from June to October.

The program was jointly organized by SCNU’s Glocal University 30 Animation and Cultural Content School (Directors Kim Sora and Kim Dongjo) and the Suncheon Office of Education as part of the 2025 Suncheon Education Development Special Zone Cultural Content Creation Class. It aimed to promote creative education through collaboration between the university and the local education community.

This year’s experience program involved 2,740 children from 126 classes across 20 kindergartens and elementary schools in Suncheon. A total of 33 instructors, including 10 lead instructors and 23 assistants, conducted 1,008 hours of lessons. The curriculum included four stages: “Making Friends with Comics,” “Drawing Facial ex-pressions,” “Creating My Own Character,” and “Designing My Character Goods (Badge).” Each step helped students develop imagination and creativity through character design and storytelling.

The program, hosted by the Animation and Cultural Content Suncheon Campus, was carried out in close cooperation among SCNU, local education authorities, and professional instructors?from curriculum planning to classroom implementation. The experiential and hands-on approach received highly positive feedback from students, teachers, and parents.

A closing ceremony for instructors was held on October 27 at the Suncheon Campus. Attendees included Director Prof. Kim Dongjo (Department of Visual Design), Research Professor Cheon Hyunjin, staff members, Gong Minsuk, supervisor from the Suncheon Office of Education, and participating instructors. They reviewed this year’s outcomes and discussed future directions for program improvement.

Professor Kim Dongjo, Director of the Animation and Cultural Content Suncheon Campus, stated, “This program gave children an opportunity to experience the joy of creation while providing instructors with a meaningful teaching environment to apply their expertise. Next year, we plan to refine the curriculum and teaching materials to develop a more advanced animation and cultural content education model.”

Gong Minsuk, Supervisor at the Suncheon Office of Education, added, “This program is a great example of how universities and local schools can share educational resources to foster creativity in children. We will continue expanding regional career and creative education programs that connect university expertise with local schools.”

Webtoon artist and instructor Jo Eun-young also shared, “It was very rewarding to see how actively students engaged with cartoons and webtoons. I hope to see this program evolve with even more creative opportunities.”

Earlier in April, SCNU and the Suncheon Office of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation for nurturing local talent. The partnership promotes shared human and material resources and supports programs such as career education, campus tours, mentoring, and animation?cultural content education linked to university expertise.

Through the Glocal University 30 initiative, SCNU will continue to foster regional industries in animation and cultural content, expand lifelong education and industry?university collaboration, and build an ecosystem for nurturing creative professionals that supports the sustainable growth of both the university and the local community.
