- 순천지역 6개 중학교, 총 340여 명 참여… 전공 체험 통한 진로 설계 역량 강화

- SW와 AI, 만화·애니메이션 기초 등 중학생 맞춤형 특강과 교수·재학생 멘토링 운영 … 진로 탐색 교육의 현장 모델로 주목

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)와 전라남도순천교육지원청(교육장 허동균)은 지난 7월 14일(월)과 15일(화) 양일간 중학교 2학년 학생 340여 명을 대상으로 ‘캠퍼스 오픈데이’를 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 순천지역 6개 중학교가 참여한 진로탐색 프로그램으로, 학생들이 다양한 전공을 직접 체험하고 대학 캠퍼스를 경험하는 기회를 제공했다. 특히, 지역 교육기관과 대학이 협력해 중학생 대상 전공 체험 프로그램을 공동 기획·운영한 사례로서, 주도적 진로설계를 위한 실질적 기반을 마련했다는 점에서 의미가 깊다.

캠퍼스 오픈데이에 참여한 9개 전공은 △일본어일본문화학전공(전공 수업 체험을 통해 배우는 일본어와 일본문화) △건축학부(건축학개론) △글로벌중국학전공(중국 문화 체험) △농생명과학전공(나무도 병에 걸린다고? 오늘 너는 나무를 살리는 히어로 의사!) △만화애니메이션학전공(만화, 애니메이션 기초) △사학전공(사학전공의 진로 소개와 역사 유적 탐방 체험) △영어교육과(글로컬 영어교육캠프 : 영어 여행 플래너) △컴퓨터공학전공(SW와 AI) △패션디자인학전공(폐자원을 활용한 친환경 패션 소품 만들기) 등으로, 눈높이에 맞춰 직접 기획·운영한 전공 체험 프로그램으로 학생들을 맞았다.

참여 학생들은 각 학과 실습실과 강의실에서 직접 활동하며 전공 교육을 체험했고, 이후 교수 및 대학생 멘토들과의 질의응답을 통해 보다 구체적인 진로 방향을 설정하는 시간을 가졌다. 동행한 교사들도 “중학생 눈높이에 맞춘 실습 중심 구성과 전공별 특화 프로그램이 매우 인상적이었다”며, “진로 지도뿐 아니라 학생들 스스로 진로를 계획하는데도 매우 도움이 된다”라고 긍정적인 반응을 보였다.

국립순천대학교와 순천교육지원청은 향후에도 정기적인 진로교육 협력 프로그램을 이어가며, 고교-대학 연계 교육과정과 전공 맞춤형 진로활동 등으로 연계를 확대할 계획이다. 강희순 입학처장은 “캠퍼스 오픈데이를 통해 학생들이 자신의 진로를 주도적으로 설계할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다”라며, “앞으로도 지역 교육기관과의 협력을 바탕으로 우수 인재를 발굴·육성하는 데 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

SCNU and Suncheon Office of Education Host “Campus Open Day” for Local Middle School Students

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon, SCNU) and the Suncheon Office of Education (Director Heo Dong-gyun) successfully held a two-day “Campus Open Day” event on July 14 and 15, inviting over 340 second-year middle school students from six schools in the Suncheon region. This initiative was part of a career exploration program designed to provide students with hands-on experience in various academic disciplines and a firsthand look at university campus life. It also served as a meaningful example of collaboration between local educational institutions and the university, aiming to establish a solid foundation for students’ proactive career planning.

The event featured nine departments offering tailored programs suited to the interests and learning levels of middle school students. Participating majors included Japanese Language and Culture (Japanese language and cultural class), Architecture (Introduction to Architecture), Global Chinese Studies (Chinese culture experience), Agricultural and Life Sciences (interactive session titled “Do Trees Get Sick Too? Be a Tree-Saving Hero!”), Cartoon & Animation Studies (basic drawing and animation), History (career exploration through historical sites), English Education (Glocal English travel planner workshop), Computer Engineering (introductory software and AI), and Fashion Design (eco-friendly fashion accessory creation using recycled materials). Each department planned and conducted the activities independently, providing students with unique, field-specific experiences.

Throughout the event, students engaged in activities within departmental labs and classrooms, where they experienced major-related learning and participated in Q&A sessions with professors and student mentors. These interactions helped them better understand potential academic and career paths. Teachers accompanying the students expressed high praise for the event, highlighting the practice-centered approach and well-designed programs tailored to young learners. They noted that the event was not only helpful for guiding students but also for encouraging them to reflect on and shape their future goals.

SCNU and the Suncheon Office of Education plan to continue their collaboration through regular career education programs and expand connections with high schools via university-linked curricula and major-specific career activities. Kang Hee-soon, Dean of Admissions at SCNU, remarked, “We hope this Campus Open Day provided students with a meaningful opportunity to actively design their career paths,” and added, “We will continue working closely with local educational institutions to identify and nurture talented students.”
