… 재학생과 함께한 다채로운 활동으로 외국인 유학생 유치 기반 마련

국립순천대학교(총장 이병운)는 지난 7월 20일부터 26일까지 6박 7일 동안, 중국·몽골·우즈베키스탄 등 3개국의 고등학생 및 대학생, 인솔자 등 59명을 초청해 ‘2025학년도 하계 한국학 프로그램’을 성공적으로 운영했다.

이번 프로그램은 교육부 글로컬대학30 사업의 일환으로, 해외 교류기관 학생들에게 한국어 교육과 전통문화 체험, 캠퍼스 생활 등을 직접 경험할 수 있는 기회를 제공하고, 국립순천대학교에 대한 이해와 관심을 넓히기 위해 마련됐다.

참가자들은 ▲중국 경의외국어학교, 심양공정대학교, 위현고등학교 ▲몽골 어르헝도교육청, 툽도청, 한몽골학교 등 ▲우즈베키스탄 동방고등학교 등 11개 기관에서 파견됐으며, 총 59명의 해외 참가자와 8명의 본교 재학생 버디(도우미)가 팀을 이루어 프로그램을 함께했다.

학생들은 국립순천대학교 기숙사에 머물며 한국어 수업(3개 분반), 입학 상담, 대학 생활 안내 등 순천대의 교육 환경을 생생하게 체험했으며, 도서관·박물관·창업지원단 등 주요 시설을 둘러보는 캠퍼스 투어도 함께 진행됐다. 또 여수 아쿠아플라넷, 전주 한옥마을, 등 인근 지역을 방문해 한복입기, 전통예절 체험, 비빔밥 만들기, DIY 공예, 태권도 등 한국 고유의 문화와 지역 생태를 즐길 수 있는 다양한 활동도 이어졌다.

특히 이번 프로그램에는 언어, 전공, 관심사를 고려해 선발된 국립순천대학교 재학생 8명이 도우미로 함께하며, 참가자들의 소통을 돕고 생활 적응을 지원하는 등 프로그램의 완성도를 높이는 데 큰 역할을 했다.

한국학 프로그램 마지막 날은 국립순천대 한국어학당 수료식 참관과 환송 만찬으로 일정을 마무리했다. 수료식에서는 한국어학당 소속 학생들이 준비한 공연을 함께 관람하며 대학 한국어학당의 생생한 분위기를 직접 체험했다.

몽골 툽도 에르덴상트학교 소속 학생은 “처음에는 한국이 낯설고 어색했지만, 순천대 캠퍼스에서 보낸 일주일은 정말 즐겁고 의미 있는 시간이었다”며, “특히 도서관을 비롯한 쾌적한 캠퍼스 환경과 체계적인 교육 시설이 인상 깊었다”고 소감을 전했다. 이어 “앞으로 더 열심히 한국어를 공부해 꼭 국립순천대학교에 진학하고 싶다”는 바람도 덧붙였다.

서강석 국제교류교육본부장은 “이번 하계 한국학 프로그램을 통해 참가 학생들이 한국과 순천대에 대한 관심을 키우고, 유학을 진지하게 고민해보는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 우수한 교육 콘텐츠와 체계적인 운영을 바탕으로 외국인 유학생 친화 대학으로 나아갈 수 있도록 다양한 국제교류 프로그램을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

“Experiencing the K-Campus” Sunchon National University Successfully Hosts 2025 Summer Korean Studies Program for Students from Three Countries

? From learning Korean and traditional culture to previewing university life with SCNU buddies

Sunchon National University (President Lee Byung-woon) successfully hosted the 2025 Summer Korean Studies Program from July 20 to 26, welcoming 59 high school and university students and accompanying staff from China, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan for a six-night, seven-day immersive experience.

This program was organized as part of the Ministry of Education’s Glocal University 30 Project, offering students from overseas partner institutions the opportunity to learn Korean, experience traditional Korean culture, and get a firsthand look at university life at Sunchon National University. It aimed to deepen their understanding of SCNU and strengthen the university's international visibility.

Participants came from 11 institutions, including Kyungui Foreign Language School, Shenyang University of Technology, and Weixian High School in China; the Orkhon Province Office of Education, Tuv Province, and Han-Mongolian School in Mongolia; and Dongbang High School in Uzbekistan. Each participant was paired with a student buddy from SCNU, with eight Korean student volunteers supporting the entire program as team leaders and cultural guides.

Throughout the program, students stayed in the university dormitories and attended level-based Korean language classes (three groups), participated in admission consultations, and received guided tours of major campus facilities, such as the library, museum, and entrepreneurship support center.

Off-campus excursions included visits to local cultural and ecological landmarks, such as the Yeosu Aqua Planet, Jeonju Hanok Village, and a variety of hands-on activities like wearing hanbok, traditional etiquette classes, bibimbap-making, DIY crafts, and taekwondo.

The SCNU student buddies, selected based on language ability, major, and interest, played a vital role in helping the international students adapt to the program and build lasting friendships, thereby enhancing the quality of the cultural exchange experience.

On the final day, participants attended the official Korean Language Institute Completion Ceremony and farewell dinner. At the ceremony, they had the opportunity to enjoy performances by current students from SCNU’s Korean Language Institute and gain a deeper sense of the program’s vibrant academic community.

A student from Tuv Erdenesant School in Mongolia shared, “At first, Korea felt unfamiliar and awkward, but the week I spent at SCNU was truly enjoyable and meaningful. I was especially impressed by the comfortable campus environment and well-organized educational facilities.” The student added, “I will continue studying Korean diligently and hope to enroll at Sunchon National University in the future.”

Seo Kang-seok, Director of the Office of International Affairs, remarked, “I hope this summer program helps participants develop deeper interest in Korea and Sunchon National University, and seriously consider studying here in the future. We will continue to expand our international programs to provide foreign students with high-quality education and a supportive learning environment.”
