College of Engineering

The College of Engineering, serving as an engine of growth for the Gwangyang Bay Area, is carrying our large-scale national projects worth over KRW 70 billion and is developing experts who have creative and "glocal" abilities to solve problems and to lead research activities in the Area through active academia-industry cooperation.

About the Department

Home page

Electronic engineering, which studies phenomena of electronic motion and application technology relating to the motion, is driving development of cutting-edge industries such as computers, semiconductors, info-communications, home appliances, robotics, aerospace, photoelectron, and application technology (electronics-BT and electronics-NT). This field of study has wide application, affecting every aspect of human life as well as various industries. Moreover, the level of the electronics industry, which is technology-intensive and highly value-added industry, can be the yardstick for a nation’s level of economy and competitiveness.

The Department of Electronic Engineering provides various differentiated, practical/specialized programs in order to assist the students in acquiring understanding of electronic technologies as this area of study is developing at an alarming rate and convergence is one of the trends shown in this field. In addition, the Department has endeavored to set up tailored, practical education systems so as to develop and operate curricular that can meet the specific needs of industries based on close school-industry cooperation and to allow the majors to cultivate their abilities of solving problems in creative ways.

The electronic engineering programs offered by the Department are largely divided into basic theories and application technologies. The area of the latter includes intensive major tracks such as semiconductors, VLSI systems and CAD, computer system and computer science, telecommunication systems, ultrahigh frequency and antenna, systems and control, signal and image processing, robotics, laser and photoelectronic engineering, optical communication system, embedded system, and so forth, which allow the students learn about a variety of cutting-edge electronic technologies.
