Chemical engineering is the field of study that creates higher added value through physical/chemical change of materials. It is called process engineering too because it places an emphasis on a process although sharing common features of other engineering studies dealing with materials. Chemical engineering, which has been useful for developing material production industries such as the chemical industry, is now contributing to higher value-added industries such as biochemicals, fine chemical, high-polymer, semiconductor, and environmentally friendly processes. The majors study unit operation, reaction engineering, chemical engineering thermodynamics, colloid/surface science, and chemical engineering materials, as well as conduct research on adsorption and separation, development of new catalyst, fuel cell, nano structure control, and organic metal complex synthesis.
