College of Life Science and Natural Resources
The College of Life Science and Natural Resources aims at developing professional human resources who can offer practical expertise in the bio-industry and advanced agriculture, and also to solve problems pertaining to these areas by studying sophistication of agricultural production, advanced agricultural technologies, and effective utilization of agricultural resources.
With regard to life science, the College provides education for modern biology, improved productivity for bio-resources, environmental preservation, and development of the bio-industry.
Department of Biology aims to develop competent experts who can conduct research on modern biology based on life science and also explore a wide range of applications in our society. The curricular mainly include botany, zoology, and microbiology, and also deal with taxology, morphology, physiology, genetics, embryology, and immunology, which help you understand vital phenomena. In addition, biochemistry and molecular biology promote a better understanding of vital phenomena at the molecular level.
Considering the university's close proximity to the sea, the Department offers studies of marine botany and marine zoology as well. The major of biology at the graduate school of education and the master/doctor's course at the graduate school provide in-depth theories and applications. The Department is equipped with a full range of laboratories (for genetics, ecology, plant physiology, immunology, animal physiology, general biology) as well as a specimen room, low-temp room, dark room, and equipment room along with more than 100 pieces of lab apparatus including ultracentrifuge, HPLC, FPLC, and spectro photometer. Majors are expected to study further at a graduate school or work at administrative agencies related to the environment, laboratories for biology, pharmaceutical companies, food companies, and so forth.
